FearIsNotLove
FearIsNotLove. These four words share perhaps the most important thing you need to know about us. It’s who we are. And it’s what we stand for. Ever.
Neglect, violence and abuse are life-altering, terrorizing behaviours. They are never ‘okay’. No matter what the ‘past history’ or ‘what you did.’
We call attention to the behaviours that lead partners and family members to not feel safe to be who they are, to feel afraid to speak their minds, and to feel terrified in their own homes. This can happen to anyone - regardless of how strong, intelli

Huge thank you to the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREBNow) for supporting FearIsNotLove through the CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation Transformation Grant! 💕
We are incredibly grateful to have received this grant, which is helping us transform the outdoor space at the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter into an Outdoor Oasis.
This project directly supports the women and children staying at our Emergency Shelter, where access to outdoor spaces can be limited. The Outdoor Oasis will provide a safe place to enjoy fresh air, spend time together, play, and relax while remaining within the privacy and security of the Shelter.
Your generosity and kindness will help families find comfort and hope when they need it most. THANK YOU for making this meaningful project possible! 💜

Last week, Bailey’s Law (Bill C-225) received Royal Assent, marking an important step forward in Canada’s response to intimate partner violence.
The legislation introduces several changes to the Criminal Code, including the creation of a distinct offence for intimate partner violence, helping these incidents be tracked separately from general assaults, improving visibility, accountability, and our understanding of the scope of this critical public safety issue.
Bailey’s Law honours the experiences of those impacted by intimate partner violence and the families who have shared their stories to help raise awareness and create safety for others.
At FearIsNotLove, we believe everyone has the right to feel safe, respected, supported, and loved. While there is still work to do, this legislation reflects an increasing recognition of the harmful and lasting impacts of intimate partner violence, coercive control, and repeat offender risk.
Together, we can build safer communities for everyone. Meaningful change happens when prevention, support, accountability, and awareness work together.

Think you may be hurting someone you love and want to change?
It can be painful to recognize that people you care about may be afraid of you. But that realization can also be one of the most powerful motivations for change. Taking responsibility for harmful behaviour takes courage.
At FearIsNotLove, we believe abuse is a choice. Accountability is the foundation for building safer, healthier, and more respectful relationships. Recognizing harmful behaviour is the first step toward changing it.
“I didn’t like what I was becoming. I don’t like being so angry, so upset— when I see the fear in my daughter’s eyes and my partner’s. And I have a rage in my face and it scared them. And lately, when I see that rage in me, it scares me now. I don’t want that.”
We believe anyone can choose to change and create safer, more respectful relationships with the people they care about.
We can help.

MYTH: Domestic violence only happens in certain communities or income levels.
TRUTH: Domestic violence can happen anywhere, across all ages, genders, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
It is often hidden behind appearances: a stable home, professional success, or a carefully curated public image.
Assumptions about what abuse “looks like” can make it harder to recognize when someone is experiencing it.
Domestic violence and abuse is everywhere. And recognizing it, is an important first step toward creating safer relationships and communities.
