Let me expose the dark truth behind the avocado industry they don’t want you to know. I used to think avocados were one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Until I looked deeper into how they’re actually produced. And what I found completely changed how I buy them. See, farmers sell avocados by weight. When an avocado stays on the tree to develop its healthy fats, it actually loses water and gets lighter. That means the longer a farmer waits for the fruit to become nutritious, the less money they make. So what do big industrial farms do? They harvest them way too early while they’re still mostly water and starch. But since these avocados are picked before they’re ready, they are literally “frozen” biologically. They won’t ripen on their own. So the industry sends them to massive ripening facilities that are essentially gas chambers. They pump these rooms full of ethylene gas, a synthetic chemical used to make plastic and Styrofoam. This gas doesn’t actually ripen the fruit; it just artificially softens it. It sends a “stress signal” to the avocado that destroys the vitamin C and healthy antioxidants you’re paying for.
