Beyond & Within is an immersive visual arts project exploring the intersection of storytelling, personal memories, and imagination. Drawing on my background as a visual artist, muralist, and illustrator, I weave fragments of my own narrative into a cohesive series of paintings and poetry.

Visitors are invited to literally step inside the process of self-discovery. This journey demands that we search ourselves inside out, navigating both the physical and spiritual realms. Yet, the ultimate question "Beyond & Within" asks is one of profound stillness: Standing in the eye of the storm—are we able to find peace amidst the chaos of the world?

Lately, I’ve been wanting to redraw some of my older paintings, as well as to revisit ideas I once had, and the ones that never really left my mind.

I’ve never been someone who was just “born talented.”
So I’ve always told myself: work extra hard, keep practicing, keep creating and re-creating.

Sometimes it’s scary to see what others have accomplished. But I keep reminding myself to walk at my own pace, and be proud of every small step. ( It is for sure a constant struggle)

I recently started learning piano!! After only a month, I was encouraged to do my first ever recital. Playing in front of an audience— especially when most performers were much younger and more skilled — was honestly terrifying.

But this experience reminded me:
I am who I am, and I am where I am. (In life generally or on my creative path)
And I’m proud to witness how far I’ve come.

Lunar New Year is just around the corner! Let's celebrate the Year of the Horse with these special books from Plumleaf 🎈🩷

✨AKEMI’S SONG - written by and illustrated by myself- is a tender story of self-discovery. Young Akemi has been selected to sing her song on Lunar New Year Day, but she cannot find her song. Encouraged by her mother, she flies off on a quest to learn more about herself. At various stops on her journey around the beautiful island of Taiwan, she discovers different aspects of her personality, linked to the nature around her … and returns home in time to celebrate the New Year with her beautiful song.

AND!!! I would like to recommend the following ones as well:

•THE DRAGON’S EYES written and illustrated by Megan Chew , is a magical graphic novel for ages 7-to-10 about the all-important Lunar New Year’s Eve family reunion dinner. It celebrates family connections and cultural traditions.

•TWELVE IN A RACE, by Catherine Little .beyond.bedtime with art by Sae Kimura , relates the myth of the Big Race behind the Chinese zodiac, hence it is a favourite Lunar New Year story as well as an all-year-round book, often purchased as birthday or baby shower gifts, as people like finding out which animal in the zodiac the child belongs to.

•DRAGON’S DILEMMA, by Catherine Little with art by Sae Kimura, is also about the Big Race, but it tells the story of why Dragon, the biggest of all the animals in the race, and the only one that can fly, did not win the race.
