CUPE Equality Statement

Union solidarity is based on the principle that union members are equal and deserve mutual respect at all levels. Any behaviour that creates conflict prevents us from working together to strengthen our union. As unionists, mutual respect, cooperation and understanding are our goals. We should neither condone nor tolerate behaviour that undermines the dignity or self-esteem

Emails. Texts. Teams. Slack. WhatsApp. Calls. Our work lives tend to carry over to our personal devices more than ever, and it's hard to truly switch off.

But here's your reminder to do just that. You're allowed and encouraged to disconnect, because it's vital for your mental health and off-the-clock relaxation. Everyone needs downtime to recharge, and that includes dedicated time for your own interests, hobbies, and personal relationships.

So silence those notifications and know that your free time is 100% union-approved!

Happy Mother's Day!

As you celebrate the moms in your life today, also reflect on all the workplace rights and benefits that they have fought for and won through unions: maternity leave, job protections, childhood health benefits, and more.

We believe that kind of strength and resolve is worth celebrating every day!

While it's common to joke about burnout at work, the reality is quite serious. It's a real condition with real consequences that impact mental health, fatigue, and everything else in your life.

As a union representing our workers' best interests, we focus heavily on creating workplaces with fair expectations, reasonable workloads, and proper break allocations.

Today marks the National Day of Mourning, a time to recognize those whose lives have been lost or permanently altered due to workplace injury or illness.

In 2024, Alberta had some of the highest rates of injury and fatality in the country, signaling a clear need for further safety initiatives to protect those on the job. CUPE Local 38 is committed to our role in the fight for safer workplaces that ensure every Canadian makes it home at the end of the day.

We encourage members to take a moment today to honour those who have lost their lives, and remind all workers that safety isn't optional — it's your right.

Let's hear it for the hard work of the city's Animal Services team 🎉

Without them, it would be incredibly hard to care for and coordinate the wild and domestic animals that we share our homes with. Thanks for all that you do for Calgarians - and thanks to all the Calgarians who are responsible pet owners in return!

Working at a desk isn't always ideal for keeping your body healthy. So, now that the weather is warming up and the sun is out a little longer, it's the perfect time to create some small habits for your health, like lunchtime walks through local parks and setting outdoor family time on the weekends.

It's good for your body, your brain, and your everyday life!

At CUPE 38, we stand firmly against racism in all its forms.
In a world where bigoted narratives are being given larger platforms, it’s more important than ever to oppose any form of discrimination.

Ignoring the terrible cost on individuals, racism divides workers, weakens solidarity, and undermines the collective power we rely on to defend our rights.

As a union, we will not stay silent. We will stand together and push for a future where equity, justice, and human rights are more than promises – they’re lived realities for all.
