Carl Jung wasn't suggesting that everything before midlife doesn't matter.
He was pointing to something many people experience but rarely talk about: The moment when achievement, productivity, and external success stop answering life's deeper questions.
For many people, the 40s and 50s bring a shift from building a life to examining it.
Questions emerge:
• Who am I beyond my roles?• What truly matters to me?• Why do I keep repeating the same patterns?• What would a more authentic life look like?
What we often call a "midlife crisis" may not be a crisis at all.
Sometimes it's a psychological invitation to grow, evolve, and reconnect with parts of ourselves we've neglected while meeting the demands of life.
This process can feel uncomfortable.
It can also become one of the most meaningful periods of personal growth.
If you're interested in exploring these themes in therapy, Eclipse Psychology provides evidence-based counselling for adults navigating life transitions, identity questions, relationships, anxiety, and personal growth. Check out Erin’s bio for more information 🌸

You were never “too much.”
You were just in spaces that didn’t know how to hold you.
Over time, that can make you question yourself—your emotions, your needs, your voice.
Therapy is a space where you don’t have to shrink to be accepted.

Some of the hardest emotional struggles don’t begin on the surface.
Anxiety, shame, depression, fear, relationship patterns, people pleasing, and emotional numbness are often protective responses shaped by deeper experiences and beliefs.
That understanding is the heart behind the name Eclipse Psychology 🌘
Just like an eclipse brings light to darkness, therapy can help illuminate the parts of ourselves we’ve had to suppress, hide, or survive through.
Healing isn’t about “fixing” yourself.
It’s about understanding yourself with compassion.

Two people can go through the same experience and carry it very differently.
Trauma isn’t defined only by the event itself; it’s shaped by how our nervous system, emotions, relationships, and sense of safety are impacted afterward.
Healing begins when we stop asking:
“What’s wrong with me?”
and start asking:
“What happened to me?”
If this resonates with you, you are not alone. 💛

How many relationship arguments are actually about expectations that were never clearly communicated?
A lot more than people realize.
One of the most common patterns we see in therapy is resentment building around needs that were never directly expressed. Over time, silence gets interpreted as disinterest, lack of care, or emotional distance — when sometimes the other person genuinely doesn’t understand what’s needed.
That doesn’t make your feelings invalid.
But it does mean communication matters.
A difficult but important question:
Have you clearly said the thing you’re upset about?
(And to be clear: this does NOT apply to abusive, manipulative, or unsafe relationships. Safety always comes first.)
Healthy communication isn’t about mind-reading.
It’s about creating opportunities for understanding, repair, and connection.

Healing doesn’t erase the pain we’ve lived through — it transforms it.
Sometimes the very places we’ve been hurt become the source of our deepest strength, compassion, resilience, and growth.
Your wounds are not proof that you are broken. They may be the doorway to becoming more fully yourself.

Meet Karin 🩷
Karin is a Registered Psychologist at Eclipse Psychology, based in Calgary.
Her approach to therapy is collaborative and client-centered, grounded in the belief that you are the expert of your own life and already hold the capacity for change within you.
Karin supports clients in moving beyond just thinking about their experiences and into a fuller awareness of their emotions, body, and lived experience. Together, you’ll explore patterns, build insight, and develop tools that feel meaningful and sustainable in everyday life.
Therapy with Karin is relationship first.
A space to feel safe.
A space to show up as you are, without pressure to have it all figured out.
She works with both children and adults, integrating creative and flexible approaches such as EMDR, parts work, and strengths-based therapy. This can include play, art, and other expressive methods to support resilience, coping, and self-understanding.
She supports individuals navigating:
• attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) & neurodivergence
• emotion regulation challenges
• trauma & early life experiences
• anxiety, depression, and grief
Karin also brings a deep respect for each person’s cultural identity and lived experience, thoughtfully weaving this into the work in a way that feels affirming and supportive.
Together, you might gently take things apart to better understand them, then begin to rebuild in a way that truly fits who you are and what you need.
This work is not about having all the answers.
It is about feeling understood, supported, and empowered as you move toward the life you want 🩷

Have you ever wondered why you sometimes feel intensely anxious, emotionally shut down, hyper-alert, or stuck in people-pleasing patterns — even when part of you knows you’re safe?
This is often connected to something called the Window of Tolerance — the range where our nervous system can stay regulated enough to think clearly, feel grounded, and cope with stress effectively.
When stress, trauma, burnout, or chronic overwhelm push us outside that window, our nervous system shifts into survival responses like:
• Fight or flight
• Freeze/shutdown
• Fawning/people-pleasing
These responses are not signs of weakness. They are adaptive patterns your nervous system learned to help protect you.
The encouraging part: the nervous system can also learn safety.
With awareness, support, grounding skills, and therapy, it’s possible to expand your window of tolerance and feel more connected, regulated, and in control over time.
