🚨 Is Canada’s LNG boom a risky bet?
Renewables are getting cheaper. LNG supply is set to surge. Demand in key markets is uncertain.
That combination could leave new LNG projects struggling — so we shouldn’t put public dollars at risk.

There’s a growing disconnect in Alberta’s energy story.
✅ Two thirds of Albertans want more wind & solar where they live
❌ There has been a 93% drop in new projects since 2022
Most Albertans back renewable energy — so why is the Government of Alberta still allowing investment to stall?

A big turning point for Ontario’s grid 👇
Battery storage just beat gas — winning every contract — in the province’s latest capacity auction.
By storing cheap renewable energy, batteries are reshaping Ontario’s electricity system.

Remote communities across Canada are making real progress cutting diesel use—and the numbers are impressive.
Since 2016:
✅ 142 million litres of diesel displaced
✅ Hundreds of clean energy projects built
✅ Most projects led by Indigenous and local communities
This shift is helping power homes with cleaner energy while strengthening local leadership and self-reliance.
This is what happens when local leadership has the right tools and funding.
Less diesel. More community power. | Pembina Institute Canada is home to around 210 remote communities. For decades, these communities have been largely dependent on diesel microgrids for heat and electricity. But our new research shows that since 2016, hundreds of clean energy projects have been built in remote communities, by remote communities and it...

The debate around data centres is missing something important.💡
Yes, they use a lot of electricity.
But if we treat them only as a problem, we miss the opportunity to make them part of the solution. With the right policies, they can help balance the grid, not just strain it.
That’s the shift we need to focus on.

In 2023, the critical minerals sector contributed $40B to Canada’s GDP and employed 110K Canadians. 👷⛏️
But right now, there’s a labour shortage in the sector. And without the people who extract, process, and refine critical minerals — powering everything from EV batteries to the clean tech meeting rising electricity demand — our clean energy transition isn’t possible.
That’s why we’re pleased to see Ottawa launch the first Workforce Alliance to identify and address pressing labour market challenges in the mining sector to help grow Canada’s clean energy workforce.
Read “Federal government announces mining workforce alliance to build 'talent pipelines'” by Michael MacDonald in The Canadian Press.
In Ottawa last week, Canada’s leading environmental groups reminded government that major climate policy rollbacks are bad for the planet — and the economy.
The most recent outcomes of the federal-Alberta MOU were a failure for Canada and Alberta, both in setting us up to thrive in the global clean energy economy and in doing our share to tackle the climate crisis.
As the global energy transition accelerates, smart climate policy = smart economic policy.
Read "Groups call on Ottawa to reverse course on environmental policy" by the Canadian Press.

Clean energy projects in remote communities are cutting tens of millions of litres of diesel each year.
That’s remarkable progress on one of Canada’s most complex energy challenges.
But there’s still more to do, especially as the North faces rapid climate change, rising costs, and growing populations.
Long-term partnership is critical to finishing the job.

Batteries are stepping up — and winning.
In Ontario’s latest capacity auction, battery storage projects won every contract, beating natural gas plants.
More battery storage means...
✅ Lower electricity costs
✅ More reliable power during peak demand
✅ Less reliance on volatile fossil fuel imports
This is what a modern, reliable grid looks like. 🔋⚡

If oil and gas companies don’t see a good business case for a new pipeline, taxpayers shouldn’t be asked to take that risk.
➡️ 61% of Albertans oppose taxpayer funding for a new pipeline
➡️ 67% say the economy is too dependent on oil & gas
Albertans are calling for new industries aside from oil and gas — they know it will create a more resilient future.
