You can also look at the terminology, epi means above or upon, so it would point to the top layer as it’s the layer above all other layers

The prefix hypo means under or below, so this can be used for the bottom layer, as it’s under or below the other layers.

Meso means middle, and this could be for the middle layer, but for skin they just use dermis, there is no meso necessary.
