The issue involving international students in Calgary has been ongoing for quite some time, with many students continuing to protest. From what has been publicly communicated by federal and provincial officials, immigration policies and provincial nomination spaces are limited, and many students may not qualify for permanent residency or additional permits under the current rules.

In my opinion, simply sitting at a protest is unlikely to change those decisions. If students believe their cases were handled unfairly, they should focus on legal options such as judicial review or other legal processes available to them. Those avenues are more likely to have an impact than continuing a protest alone.

What concerns me the most is the role of some local media channels and social media influencers. I feel that some of them are giving students false hope instead of presenting a realistic picture of the situation. Whether intentionally or not, this can encourage students to keep protesting while generating more views, likes, and engagement for those channels.

These students deserve honest information, not unrealistic expectations. This issue affects their futures, and they should be encouraged to make informed decisions based on accurate information and proper legal advice, rather than relying on social media narratives.
