June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour the history, heritage, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

At YWCA Calgary, we recognize the lasting impacts of colonial systems, including residential schools, particularly on Indigenous women and families.

Education and accountability are essential to reconciliation, and each of us has a role to play.

We wrapped up Asian Heritage Month the best way we know how, with great food and even better company.

Our Cultural Potluck was a celebration of culture, community & connection, featuring homemade dishes from Lebanon, Korea, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, and India.

From flaky Baklava to spicy Bicol Express, handmade dumplings to cherry blossom-inspired cupcakes, every dish was a little taste of home, generously shared with all of us.

Thank you to everyone who brought a piece of their heritage to the table. What a delicious way to end the month!

Everyone deserves to live free from fear, stigma, and discrimination.

On May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), we stand in solidarity with LGBTQ2I+ communities and reaffirm our commitment to safety, inclusion, and respect for all.

We also recognize the vital work of community partners like It Gets Better Canada and Skipping Stone Foundation, who continue to support, affirm, and uplift LGBTQ2I+ individuals every day.
