What a day.

This morning, we stopped at Social grounds for coffee before opening the restaurant. A couple of ladies came over to tell us they had just heard a restaurant review on CBC and thought it might be us.

That's how we found out Elizabeth Carson had visited and featured us on the Eyeopener. We had no idea she was reviewing us when she came in, so it was a complete surprise.

Then we opened our doors and spent the rest of the day welcoming a very busy dining room.

Thank you to Elizabeth Carson, CBC Calgary, our hardworking team, and everyone who came by today. We appreciate every single visit!

We want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has visited, supported, shared kind words, and cheered us on during our first week of opening Hungry Thaiger.

Opening our very first restaurant has been both exciting and humbling. We've learned a tremendous amount in just a few days, and we're still adjusting our systems, training our team, and finding ways to serve you faster and more consistently every day.

We would also like to apologize to those who have been hoping to place takeout orders. At this time, our focus has been on learning how to manage dine-in service properly before adding the additional workload of takeout. We know many of you have been waiting for it, and we truly appreciate your patience. Our goal is to bring takeout back as soon as we are confident we can provide the same quality and service both in-house and for pickup orders.

To those who have called asking about reservations, we're sorry if we weren't able to accommodate your request. At this time, we operate primarily on a first-come, first-served basis. The only reservations we currently accept are for groups of 6 guests at our six-person table.

For guests who arrive when we are full, we do maintain a waitlist. If there is a wait, we will gladly add your name and contact information and notify you as soon as a table becomes available. We know waiting isn't always ideal, but we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the growing pains of our first weeks in business.

Like many small businesses, finding and training great staff takes time, but we are working hard every day to build a team that can provide the experience you deserve.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we continue learning and growing. Every visit, every kind word, and every recommendation means the world to us.

Yesterday was a big milestone for us! our sign finally went up! Seeing our name on the building made everything feel a little more real.

This weekend we'll be hosting a soft opening with friends and family. The goal isn't just to serve food, but to practice, learn, and fine-tune our systems, service, and teamwork before officially opening our doors to the public on June 2, 2026.

As first time restaurant owners, we've quickly learned that there are countless details to adjust and improve. Even after our very first practice service, we already had a long list of things we want to do better. That's exactly why we're taking this time to listen, learn, and make improvements before welcoming everyone in.

We know many of you have been waiting patiently, calling, stopping by, and asking when we'll be open. Please know that we see every message, every comment, and every show of support. It means more to us than we can put into words.

Rather than rushing the process, we're committed to building something we're proud of one that delivers great food, warm hospitality, and a dining experience worthy of your support.

Just a little update from us…

We’re taking a little longer to get ready than originally planned while we wait on permits, inspections, and some equipment arrivals. We’re working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything is ready properly and safely before we open our doors.

We’ll keep everyone updated as soon as we have more news and a confirmed opening date!

Hungry Thaiger - Now Hiring Kitchen & Front of House Staff (Opening Mid-May)

We’re a small, owner-operated restaurant expanding from a successful takeout concept into our first dine-in location, and we’re looking for a few great people to join us as we open our new space.
We’re building a tight, respectful team and are looking for individuals who take pride in their work and want to be part of something growing from the ground up.
Open Positions
1. Kitchen Staff (Full-Time & Part-Time)
Lunch prep shifts and evening service shifts available
Responsibilities include food prep, line cooking, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting service flow
Ideal for someone organized, efficient, and calm under pressure
2. Lunch Server (Part-Time)
Daytime service role
Taking orders, running food, managing guest experience
Comfortable working independently in a small team environment

What We’re Looking For

Positive attitude and reliability
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Team-oriented mindset
Previous experience is an asset, but not required for the right person

Compensation

$17–$21/hour depending on experience
Opportunities for growth as the business expands

About Us
We’ve been operating for over 2 years as a takeout concept and are now opening our first full dine-in space. This is an opportunity to join early, help shape the team culture, and grow with the business.

Start Date
Training will begin in early May, with a target opening in mid-May.
