Alberta’s courts should represent Albertans, not Ottawa.

Canada is an outlier when it comes to judicial appointments, with provinces largely shut out of the process.

That’s why we’ll be introducing a motion in the legislature proposing a constitutional amendment to give Alberta a real say, helping ensure our courts reflect our communities and strengthening trust in the justice system.

It was wonderful to celebrate Eid in both Calgary and Edmonton this past week. It was a privilege to connect with so many people, share in the spirit of generosity and reflection, and recognize the contributions of Muslim communities across Alberta.

Eid Mubarak!

Last week we introduced Bill 18 to draw a clear line – medical assistance in dying must never replace care.

My thanks to Inclusion Canada and Inclusion Alberta for their support and for reinforcing why this legislation is needed now.

"Inclusion Canada welcomes the legislation tabled today by the Government of Alberta regarding medical assistance in dying. Canada's assisted dying law currently allows people who are not at end of life to receive MAiD. The United Nations has stated unequivocally that this practice violates the rights of persons with disabilities and should be repealed. We urge the Government of Canada to amend the Criminal Code so that assisted death is limited to people who are nearing end of life, and is never extended to people with mental illness or mature minors."
Krista Carr, CEO, Inclusion Canada

“Track 2 MAID discriminates against persons with disabilities and reinforces dangerous stereotypes about the worth of their lives. Bill 18 is a correction. It would protect Albertans with disabilities from discrimination by ensuring Alberta’s health system does not provide assisted su***de to people whose deaths are not reasonably foreseeable.”
Trish Bowman, CEO, Inclusion Alberta

Alberta’s courts should reflect Albertans.

Alongside Premiers Danielle Smith, Doug Ford, Scott Moe, and Francois Legault, we’re calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to bring in a new, collaborative approach to the judicial appointment process

As we celebrate Eid, I wish Muslims in Alberta, Canada, and across the world a blessed Eid filled with love, peace, and happiness.

May this special day bring you closer to your loved ones, fill your heart with gratitude and your home with joy.

Eid Mubarak to you and your family!

Today in the legislature, I introduced Bill 18: The Safeguards for Last Resort Termination of Life Act.

This legislation is about strengthening safeguards and ensuring vulnerable Albertans are protected when they need care most. It is crucial that MAiD remains a last resort, not a first response.

We need a system that prioritizes dignity, support, and real options. Bill 18 is about making sure Albertans have real options and are met with compassion and protection, not steered toward a choice that should only ever be made in the most exceptional circumstances.

Hope should be easier to access then death.

Albertans don’t back down from a challenge, and in tough fiscal times, neither do we.

In the face of global uncertainty, Budget 2026 focuses on what matters most, with targeted investments in education, health care and our economy to keep our province moving forward.

For Justice, that means a $66.4 million increase — approximately a nine per cent year-over-year rise from 2025-26, providing stable funding to ensure Albertans continue to have timely access to a sustainable, effective, fair and transparent justice system.

More doctors. More surgeries. More access to care.

Families deserve timely access to a doctor, and our government is delivering. If passed, Budget 2026 will invest a record $7.7 billion in Alberta physicians, a 22 per cent increase, to recruit, train, and support doctors across the province.

This investment strengthens frontline care and connects more families to the services they need.

On Thursday I will deliver a special televised address to Albertans at 6:45 p.m. to speak directly to Albertans about the road ahead for our province and the decisions that will shape our future. Tune in on your local television channels or online.
