Every element of the BCGEU Workers with Disabilities Committee logo was chosen with intention.

The mountain ram stands for perseverance: head down, moving forward no matter what stands in the way. The compass rose is about finding direction through uncertainty. B.C.'s forests and mountains represent the land we live and work on. And the committee name runs bold and proud around the outside.

Nothing about us without us. That's the principle this committee was built on, and it's the spirit behind every choice in this design.

Callout boxes point to four elements: the mountain ram (perseverance, head down and moving forward), the compass rose (finding direction through uncertainty), the B.C. forests and mountains (the land we live and work on), and the committee name in bold text around the outside of the circle. Text at the bottom reads "Every element was chosen by the committee to reflect who they are and what they stand for" with bcgeu.ca/disability linked below. Alt text available in image settings.

Most of us have encountered Thomson Reuters without realizing it, through its global news wire or the legal and accounting tools used by professionals across the country. If you have a pension or investments, it may already be in your portfolio.

For years, this Toronto-based giant has been leasing surveillance software to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), used to track, detain, and deport migrants and asylum seekers.

ICE now faces multiple lawsuits over unlawful detentions, due process violations, and deaths. And under Canadian law, companies can be held liable for human rights abuses connected to their operations anywhere in the world.
BCGEU has been engaging with Thomson Reuters on this for six years. Next week, our shareholder resolution goes to a vote at the company's AGM.

We're proud to launch a dedicated Disability & Accessibility resource page for BCGEU members.

Developed with input from the Workers with Disabilities Committee, this page came out of a convention resolution brought forward by members—and it's been a labour of love ever since.

Workplace accommodations, human rights protections, WCB support and more. All in one place, built to be as accessible as possible.
This is a first step. A living resource, open to feedback and built to grow and evolve with BCGEU members' needs. If you have suggestions or spot a gap, we want to hear from you.

Today is Injured Workers Day – the national day of action for all injured workers.

In B.C., one of the most unfair ways the government treats injured workers is the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) approach to chronic pain – often delaying treatment, discontinuing it too soon and providing inadequate, one-size-fits-all compensation. Injured workers and their families need better than this!

June is National Indigenous History Month – a time to recognize and celebrate the leadership, cultures, histories and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada.

To celebrate Indigenous Peoples this month and beyond, support Indigenous-owned businesses, amplify Indigenous voices, attend local events for National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, and take time to learn through Indigenous books, films and stories.

Honouring Indigenous resilience, knowledge and leadership helps build a stronger, more connected future for all.

This week, we took our fight against liquor privatization to the streets in Victoria.

BCGEU members rallied outside a fundraiser held by Minister Lana Popham – the minister overseeing an expansion of privatization in B.C.'s public liquor distribution system.

The new policy lets B.C. producers ship ciders, coolers and pre-mixed cocktails directly to wholesale customers, bypassing public warehouses and handing that work to for-profit companies.

That threatens BCGEU jobs at the Liquor Distribution Branch and opens the door to further privatization. And it was done without consulting the workers who run our liquor system.

Want to help stop private liquor distribution? Send a message to your MLA today: https://bcgeu.good.do/ldb/stop-ldb-privatization-all/?dg_track=social

Congratulations to the more than 50,000 nurses of the Nurses' Bargaining Association on reaching a tentative agreement with health employers — backed by a historic 98.2% strike vote mandate.

This is what worker power looks like. đź’Ş

Nurses across B.C. stood together, demanded meaningful change, and delivered. Your solidarity at the bargaining table is an inspiration to working people everywhere.

We stand with you as you move through ratification. ✊
