It's National AccessAbility Week!

Here at BPL, we're committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities by removing barriers to accessibility and meeting the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and The City of Barrie's Accessibility Plan.

Just a few of the ways we do this:

🚪 All branches have automatic sliding doors and are wheelchair accessible.
🚽 All branches have accessible washrooms.
📖 Font sizes in our eBooks can be adjusted, and we offer a large collection of large print books.
🎧 Audiobooks are available digitally and on CD.

In addition to the accessibility features available in our branches, we also offer a number of items in our Library of Things that support a variety of accessibility needs.

Our C-Pen Reader Pens (pictured) are one example of how we're helping create a more accessible community. These reading pens can scan text and read it aloud in English, French, and Spanish. This can support people with reading difficulties, learning disabilities, visual impairments, and others who may benefit from audio assistance, making it easier to enjoy books and other written materials.

June is Pride Month in Canada, a time to celebrate the history, resilience, diversity, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities 🏳️‍🌈

Libraries play an important role in creating inclusive spaces where everyone can discover stories, access information, and connect with others. At the Barrie Public Library, we believe everyone deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and represented.

Throughout Pride Month, we invite our community to explore stories, resources, programs, and experiences that celebrate the richness and diversity of 2SLGBTQIA+ lives: https://bit.ly/49Ab3tq
