Dragonfly Centre Sexual Violence Services is pleased to share our Rural Response to Sexual Abuse training.
This training was developed to support service providers, frontline workers, community organizations, educators, justice and health professionals, and other community partners who may encounter or support individuals impacted by sexual abuse, sexual assault, or sexual violence. The training is especially focused on the realities of responding in rural, remote, northern, and Indigenous communities, where barriers to support can look different than they do in larger urban centres.
Throughout the training, participants will explore the impacts of sexual violence, common myths and misconceptions, trauma-informed and survivor-centred responses, how to respond to disclosures, child sexual abuse considerations, referral pathways, and the importance of coordinated community-based responses. The training also creates space to discuss rural-specific challenges such as confidentiality concerns, limited services, transportation barriers, close-knit communities, dual relationships, and the difficulty survivors may face when seeking support close to home.
