WOW!!!!

Holy COW (literally)!!

HRM, you've done it again with another incredible 10 days of burger eating. Pat yourselves on the back, because with this year's Burger Bash, your stomachs have officially raised over 1 MILLION DOLLARS in support of Feed Nova Scotia!

A huge thank you to Coast - Halifax/Kjipuktuk for organizing the event, Garrison Brewing Co. and FM for their ongoing support, all of the restaurants and every staff member who played a part in Burger Bash, and of course each and every person who got a burger (or two, or three). We're so grateful to have all of you on our side in the fight against food insecurity!

You can read the full article on The Coast's website or by searching "the Coast Burger Bash article".

Are you willing to perform any or all of the listed Volunteer positions? If not, which ones are you NOT willing to perform?

Answer phones – Volunteers are trained to answer the phones when Clients call to place their orders. Volunteers must confirm the Client’s name, address, DOB, and family size. Volunteers will then go thru our list of choices and highlight the Client’s picks. The Volunteer will then ask if there is any thing missed, and anything they do not want or need in their order. The Volunteer will then provide the Client with a pick-up time for their order. Write today’s date on their client card.

Packing orders – Volunteers will pack orders with three other Volunteers. Volunteers bring fresh food items from the cooler up to the packing station. The list gets split three ways and they each place the items on the table. Once all items in that order are on the table, one Volunteer confirms the order and number of items. The order then gets packed into re-useable cloth bags and into a cart. The Volunteer wheels that cart out to the main room.

Bread/Door – This Volunteer will receive the shopping cart & order from the packers. This Volunteer will check the number of family members and food choices and add bread products to the order accordingly. Also at this time, there may be extras to go in the order such as knitted hats & mittens, socks, soft drinks, ect. The order is then set aside until the scheduled pick up time. At pick up time, the Client will knock on the door and provide their name and ID. The Volunteer verifies the Client and pushes the cart with their order out the door. Client receives their order. This position also re-stocks the packing station fridges with milk & eggs as they get used.

Delivery Drivers – Volunteers also sign up to deliver orders to Clients that are unable to come to the Food Bank for medical reasons. These Clients may be sick, handicapped, without transportation, or elderly. Volunteers may need to take the order from their vehicle to the door for the Client. Must be able to lift 30lbs.

Pick-Up Drivers – Volunteers go to both major grocery stores at opening time and pick up the donated meat, bread & sweets and bring them to the Food Bank. These donations are put in the freezer, on the bread shelves, or on the sweets table by the Volunteer. Must be able to lift 30lbs.

Thanks everyone for your interest!
