Tuesday Tech Tip: Choose Your Dive Teammate Wisely

A great dive starts long before you enter the water—it starts with selecting the right teammate.

Your dive teammate should share more than just the same dive site. They should have:

✅ Similar Goals – If one diver wants to explore and the other wants to focus on photography, training, or pushing limits, expectations can quickly become misaligned.

✅ Comparable Knowledge & Skills – Your teammate doesn’t need identical certifications, but they should have the experience and competence required for the dive being planned.

✅ Mutual Respect – Respect each other’s limits, concerns, and decisions. A good teammate never pressures another diver into a dive or a situation they’re uncomfortable with.

✅ Clear Communication – Discuss the dive plan, gas management, turn pressures, emergency procedures, and objectives before entering the water.

✅ A Team Mindset – Diving isn’t about two individuals in the water; it’s about functioning as a team. Watch out for each other and be prepared to assist when needed.

Remember: The best dive teammate isn’t always your best friend—it’s the person who shares your objectives, possesses the appropriate skills, and values teamwork and safety as much as you do.

Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a nice DPV ride!

Rain on the surface doesn’t change the conditions underwater. Sometimes the best way to spend a rainy day is exploring your favourite dive site with a scooter and good dive buddies.

Some photos of the wreck of the Robert Gaskin with the Dive Rite O2ptima CM.
There’s nothing quite like the silence and efficiency of diving on a rebreather while taking in one of the region’s historic wrecks.
