Here we go once again. No need to post a pic because I've done that more than once.

To the aspiring politicians who are vying for Belize City residents' votes, I pose the following questions:

"Why in the hell is there no traffic enforcement at the stoplight located on the corner of Chetumal Street and Albert Hoy Avenue? Beyond the fact that either the City Council and/or possibly the Belize Police Department stands to make a considerable amount of revenue if either entity would endeavour to simply look out for the safety of the residents, the operative question is..."How are you so damn negligent?"

Case in point, once again, tonight at approximately 7:39 PM, upon receiving the Crossing Signal to proceed on Albert Hoy, across Chetumal Street (mind you right beside the Belama Police Sub-Station), a burgundy vehicle made an illegal left turn and could have hit me, if I weren't aware of my surroundings. Simultaneously, while the other vehicles were stopped at the light, yet another vehicle ran the red light and nearly hit a pedestrian.

The 6th of March is cometh nigh and we all know what that means. It is Municipal Election Day. The political aspirants are out and about and for the love of God, do any of them give a damn about the inevitable tragedy that looms? Are they going to wait until someone is the victim of vehicular manslaughter, until they determine that something needs to be done? This is serious business!

I share with the students of the course I facilitate at UB (Public Administration and Policy), that Public Policy amounts to "What government decides to do or not to do.", meanwhile Public Administration "essentially 'does' or carries out the works/services provided by government".

Given the above-mentioned situation, I dare say that the residents of Belize City (specifically Belama) are being failed by the powers that be, because based on the inexplicable negligence that is on full display and has been, since the traffic light was first placed there, it appears as though neither our safety nor the adherence to the rule of law, are anywhere on their agenda.

In closing, this is election season and although it is clear that both politicians and aspiring politicians are known to "tell you what you want to hear", in order to get your vote and afterward, they conveniently forget about you, I want to know if anyone, among the candidates who placed their names on the ballot for the Belize City Municipal Election, is interested in substantively addressing this problem? This also goes to the higher-ups of the Police Department. What role can you play in this matter? Do you have authority/jurisdiction to uphold the traffic laws? Or better yet, act proactively toward creating a safe environment for Belize City residents?

Is it incompetence? Is it negligence? Is it that they simply don't care? These are the type of questions Belize City residents should put to the aspiring political candidates, instead of acting like drones and blindly giving your vote to one or the other...just because.

This is utterly disgusting because I hate to say it, but when (not if) someone is knocked down and killed at that corner, by a driver who has complete disregard for the rules of the road, what will you say? Will it be at that juncture the powers that be will have an epiphany that they must enforce the rules of the road and hold those who break them, accountable?

Belize is in a sad state on many levels and if we continue on this downward trajectory of negligence, I shutter to think what the future holds.

Politicians, Police, somebody in a position of authority...DO YOUR JOB before tragedy strikes!
🤬😡
