08/05/2026

MISA Botswana recently participated in the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Media Programme Sub-Saharan Africa workshop on Cyber Threats and Resilience for Media, Journalists and Newsrooms held in Gaborone, Botswana.

The four-day workshop brought together journalists, media practitioners, and stakeholders to explore emerging challenges affecting the media landscape, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), deepfakes, misinformation, and disinformation. Discussions focused on how these evolving digital threats impact journalism, public trust, and the safety of newsrooms across the region.

Participants engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions and practical discussions on strengthening digital security, verifying information in the age of AI-generated content, and building resilient newsrooms capable of responding to cyber threats and coordinated disinformation campaigns. The workshop also highlighted the importance of ethical journalism, fact-checking, and digital literacy in safeguarding credible and trustworthy media.

MISA Botswana remains committed to promoting media freedom, journalist safety, and strengthening the capacity of media practitioners to navigate the rapidly changing digital environment. Through continued collaboration and training, MISA Botswana seeks to empower journalists and newsrooms with the tools and knowledge needed to combat cyber threats, misinformation, and emerging technological risks.
