Be careful out there. There is a Tanzanian scammer on rampage who called us with mobile +255 798 921 286 (through WhatsApp), looking for a driver, to assist shuttle him around town.

I referred someone to assist, who was almost scammed. So be careful if someone reaches out and ask you to refer someone who could assist with something. By requesting you to refer someone the scammer seeks to exploit the vulnerability that comes with trust, based on the relationship between you (the 1st contact) and the person you will refer.

I our case as the person we or i referred was preferring to go and assist as requested, the scammed launched the attack, requesting that the person assist get him (the scammer) some data for his WIFI so that they could start browsing the internet and connect with loved ones back home.

This tactic is dangerous as in pressurises the potential victim to do disappoint the referrer and the potential client (the scammer). Fortunate for us me and the person i referred usually discuss ways of identifying scammers and so one of the things that we set as ground rules is that we will not send any money or give banking details to anyone until we have met the person in person and obtained their identity documents.

So he (the person i referred) switched of told the scammer that he is on the way and will assist with data when he got there and then switched of data to avoid the persistent push by the scammer to load data. (Scammers secret weapon is "URGENCY").

If ever you feel pushed or pressurized then know that you may be about to be scammed.

RED FLAGS
The voice of the guy (the scammer) was African (Tanzanian it seems) but the picture says a different story.

If someone asks for assistance and then all of a sudden wants some thing else then that is a scam. eg 1st he wanted a driver and then data for wifi.

Please make this scammer go viral.
