RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Mr. Esmond Weekes, Assistant Professor

For 26 years, Mr. Weekes established a stellar career at the University of The Bahamas-North. Mr. Weekes joined the Faculty in the School of Business in 1996. He taught Business Administration courses in Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. He also taught Public Administration and Political Science courses for the College of Social and Educational Studies.

Professor Weekes’ involvement was vast. He served and represented UB-North locally, nationally, and internationally. He was intricately involved in Programme Development and Activities Coordination for the School of Business. He served on various academic committees and was Academic Advisor to several student-related clubs. Mr. Weekes was a member of the Personnel and Assessment Committee, the Academic Advising Taskforce, UB-North’s First Graduation and Honours Convocation Committee, the UB-North’s Business Week Committee, the Barracuda Business Competition Committee, the Sustainable Grand Bahama Conference Committee and the Union of Tertiary Educators of The Bahamas Executive Board. He was also the advisor to the COBUS Young Alliance and Business Student Association.

Additionally, Mr. Weekes played a significant role in facilitating partnership relationships between UB-North, national organisations, and international institutions: the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Bahama Port Authority, The Bahamas Business Association, The Bahamas Human Resource Association, Grand Bahama Chapter (of which he was a founding member), and several Rotary Clubs on Grand Bahama Island, Eckerd College in Tampa, Florida, and St. Bonaventure University in Buffalo, New York.

Professor Weekes inspired many students to stretch their academic abilities and think “outside the box.” He was a devoted Lecturer and Mentor to his students. To the student body, he said, “They made my journey worthwhile,” and on leaving, he thanked his colleagues for their invaluable assistance during his tenure. He was respectful to everyone and remains a highly-respected member of the University Community.

As a valued member of the UB-North family, Mr. Weekes will continue to impart knowledge as an Adjunct Faculty in the School of Business. We thank him for his long-standing commitment and immense contribution to the development of UB-North.
