My daughter called me in a bit of a panic today. Spirit Airlines shut down... and her flight to see me for Mother's Day was on it.
She booked through Expedia to come see me next weekend. Here's what I told her, and what you need to know if you've been affected:
✓ Don't go to the airport. Customer service is shut down.
✓ Booked directly on a card? Refund is automatic. File a dispute if it doesn't show up.
✓ Booked through Expedia or any third-party (like my daughter)? Call THEM, not Spirit. Then dispute with your card company if needed.
✓ Used points or vouchers? Brace yourself… those go through bankruptcy court. I have a Spirit credit card with points from years ago, and I'm probably losing them too.
✓ Need to rebook? JetBlue is $99 one-way through May 6. Southwest starts at $200. United, Delta, American, and Frontier are all capping fares.

🤫 One of the locals told me about Sea Glass Beach. (They call it Glass Beach.) Honestly? It might have been the best tip of the whole trip!
It’s a small, hidden beach covered in hundreds of smooth, colorful pieces of sea glass that have washed up over time. No crowds, no signs you’d ever notice from the road, and a shoreline that feels completely private. When the waves come in, you can actually hear the glass moving. It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced on a beach.
⚠️ Fair warning: it’s a long walk from the port. Worth every step, but I’d take a scooter next time. 😅

If you’re thinking about booking an MSC cruise, here’s what nobody tells you until you’re already on the ship. 🚢
💰 Drink packages are WAY cheaper before you board (we’re talking 30-40% less).
🍽️ The main dining room beats the buffet every time! Don’t skip it.
⚓ Shore excursions through the cruise line? They can be overpriced. Consider booking excursions independently or just explore on your own.
💵 Extra charges are auto-charged daily. Factor that into your budget upfront.
📱 WiFi is expensive and painfully slow. Download everything you can before you sail.
🍷 Specialty restaurants book up FAST, so you MUST reserve them on day one or you will probably miss out.
🚶♀️The ship is massive. It’s best to add 15 minutes to get anywhere or you might be late for a show or dinner reservation.
