A woman is born with all the eggs she is going to have in her lifetime, decreasing in quality and quantity as she ages.

Age is the single most important factor affecting a woman’s fertility. While good health improves the chance of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby, it doesn’t override the effects of age.

A woman in her early to mid-20s has a 25–30% chance of getting pregnant every month. Fertility generally starts to slowly decline when a woman is in her early 30s, and after the age of 35 the decline speeds up. By age 40, the chance of getting pregnant in any monthly cycle is around 5%.

How the Invenia ABUS exam is different?

Unlike 2D or 3D mammography, which uses radiation, Invenia ABUS screening uses sound waves to create 3D pictures of the breast tissue. Invenia ABUS screening along with your screening mammogram will help provide a more complete evaluation of your dense breast tissue.

Having dense breasts is normal – it means the breasts contain more tissue than fat. And for those women – mammograms alone may not be enough to find breast cancer.

Invenia ABUS is the first ultrasound technology, FDA-approved for breast cancer screening in women with dense breast tissue.

Ultimate Imaging provide our patients with a breast density score upon completion of their mammography screening results. Typically for women with a score of C (Heterogeneously dense) or D (Extremely dense), it will be recommended to include an ABUS screening in addition to your mammogram.

BONE DENSITY & OSTEOPOROSIS

Osteoporosis is a major non-communicable disease and the most common bone disease, affecting 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 worldwide.

What is often referred to as a silent disease, those affected often don’t recognize until they break something.

To improve bone health before it gets to that point, – eat a well-balanced, nutrient-rich diet (high in calcium and vitamin D), + engage in consistent weight-bearing and resistance exercise. Additionally, healthy lifestyle choices such as refrain or stop smoking, limit alcohol and maintaining a healthy body weight are important.

Bone health is part of greater overall health, and building healthy bones is a lifelong pursuit.

IT’S A STRETCH…

Stretch marks are very common, affecting about 80% of pregnant women. They appear as thin, itchy, red-to-purple, or brown streaks on the stomach, breasts, hips, or thighs during the second or third trimester due to rapid skin stretching, hormone changes, and genetics. While they fade to silvery, less noticeable scars after birth, they rarely disappear entirely.

Preventing stretch marks is debatable, many lotions and potions but in general your GP will advise you to keep your skin hydrated. Use moisturizing creams, oils, or balms containing ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, vitamin E, or hyaluronic acid to improve skin elasticity. Regular application (daily) and consistent hydration help reduce itching and potentially lessen severity.

OBSTETRIC ULTRASOUND – TWINS

When you’re expecting twins or triplets, it’s important that you attend all your appointments due to the increased risks with this type of pregnancy. It is also important that your antenatal team are experienced in caring for women having twins or triplets.

Typically, women with multiple pregnancies should have an ultrasound scan at around 11 to 14 weeks.
