The procedure of polyp removal is typically carried out at the same time when performing the colonoscopy (examination of the large intestines with a flexible endoscopic camera). However, there are a few recovery tips that can be helpful in ensuring fast recovery after polypectomy.

If a polyp is too large to be removed during a colonoscopy, it might be necessary to resect it laparoscopically (minimally invasive surgery).
During laparoscopic surgery, small incisions are made in the abdominal wall (versus a large one in traditional open surgery) to access the area where the polyp is located. Because the incisions are small, scarring is minimized and people recover much quicker than after open surgery.

Adenomatous polyps do not cause symptoms unless they progress to colon cancer. Even then, there may be no sign of a problem until the malignancy is advanced. This is why colon cancer screenings are so important.

After opening an abscess, the wound cannot be closed with stitches, as it would get re-infected immediately and develop a new abscess within 1-3 days. The wound has to heal “from inside out”. The most important part, is to avoid, that the skin sticks together at the surface, while there is still a wound cavity underneath. Here is how you do that:

I'd like to thank all patients, who send me their feedback, for taking their valuable time to share their experiences with me on how I helped them through difficult times.
It is good to know when I had a positive impact on their experience. Their kind words have brightened my day! I really appreciate it!

This procedure was the excision of a cancerous skin-lesion excision above the eyebrow. Most wounds take 1 to 3 weeks to heal. In this case, my patient's wound is nearly invisible and will continue to fade over time.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is a very frequent type of skin cancer. It often appears as a growing slightly pinkish bump on the skin with a non-healing but scabbing wound in the middle, although it can also take other forms.
What does it look and feel like?
- Open sores that don’t heal, sometimes they are painful
- A round ulcer that looks as if a bite has been taken out of the middle
- Red patches that have a sandpapery feel
- An area of thickened skin
- A bump with a rolled edge
- A lesion with blood vessels that look like the spokes of a wheel
The best treatment is to remove them surgically in healthy tissue as long as they are small. Normally they don’t spread into the body (metastasis). If they become too big to be removed, radiation therapy for several weeks can help to control them but that is a much heavier treatment.

Abdominal Hernias occur, when tissue that normally belongs inside the belly (intestines, fat) bulge out through holes in the muscular abdominal wall and create a bump under the skin. This can happen at sites of natural weakness in the abdominal wall (navel, inguinal, femoral, midline above navel) or even more frequently at scars from a previous surgery.
Symptoms may include:
- bump under the skin that varies in size
- Abdominal bulge and cramps
- Pain (especially during straining)
- Nausea and Vomiting (mostly if intestines are trapped in the or***ce, this is very dangerous and needs immediate treatment by a doctor)
Causes may include:
- Straining during bowel movements or urinating
- Lifting objects that are openly heavy
- Pregnancy
- Obesity
- Having a buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity from liver or cardiac disease
- Unrelenting coughing
A hernia will never go away with time.
The only way to effectively treat a hernia is through surgical repair.

An amazing email from a previous patient who I performed an emergency surgery on! This letter truly touched my heart. I'm looking forward to having her join me soon as an intern.

Malignant Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that derives from cells known as melanocytes. Melanomas can be dangerous because of its ability to spread to other organs rapidly (in form of metastasis) if it is not treated at an early stage.
The exact cause of melanomas isn't clear, but the most important risk factors to develop a melanoma are:
- exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight or tanning lamps
- fair skin type (freckles, blond or red hair, green or blue eyes)
- persons that are immuno-compromized due to diabetes, certain medications, HIV etc.
Symptoms:
- a change in an existing mole - size, itching, bleeding, scabbing
- the development of a new pigmented or unusual-looking growth on your skin
