Last week Thursday, the Ariel Re Environment Club organised our second annual Day of Giving at Trunk Island in partnership with the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo supported by Bermuda Zoological Society . 🌿

Building on the work carried out last year, our team of volunteers spent the day clearing invasive species, digging out roots, and reopening pathways on the island. The work will help create space for future planting of native and endemic species, including cedar and olivewood, supporting the development of one of Bermuda’s largest micro forests and helping boost biodiversity and combat climate change.

Since 2006, the Bermuda Zoological Society has been transforming Trunk Island into a ‘Living Classroom’, providing opportunities for students, volunteers, and researchers to explore forests, mangroves, tide pools, and coastal habitats while experiencing Bermuda’s ecosystems firsthand.

A huge thank you to the Bermuda Zoological Society for welcoming us back and for the incredible work they are doing to restore and protect Trunk Island for future generations.

As Ariel Re celebrates 20 years, we’re helping bring this year's Run for the Arts mural project to life in partnership with the Bermuda National Gallery as part of our initiative.

The mural, which will be installed at the Flora Duffy Stadium, will become the fifth public artwork created through the Run for the Arts program and will showcase the talent and creativity of Bermuda’s local artists.

We’re delighted to be part of a project that celebrates community, enhances public spaces, and creates a lasting legacy for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.

The Bermuda National Gallery is currently inviting artists to submit proposals for the sports-themed mural, with submissions open until 15 June: https://bng.bm/run-for-the-arts/murals-submissions/

As part of our commitment to the Bermuda community, the Ariel Re Charity Committee donated $5,000 to the 11th Annual KAYAK FOR KIDS Fundraising Event in support of S C A R S (Saving Children And Revealing Secrets).

In addition, Brian Darling, VP - Head of Portfolio Management, and Neil Pohlman, VP - Head of Portfolio Planning, joined fellow kayakers on the waters around Hinson’s Island, helping raise awareness and funds for this important cause.

We are proud to support an organisation dedicated to protecting Bermuda’s children and creating a safer future for the next generation.

As one of the final donations in our initiative, Ariel Re is proud to support Young Enterprise UK with a £2,500 donation to fund a Launch Pad Programme.

Taking place this July, the programme will work with students from a school in an underserved area of London, helping them develop workplace skills, financial literacy, confidence, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Through a series of team-based activities, students will develop and refine a business idea before delivering an elevator pitch.

By supporting initiatives like Launch Pad, we hope to help equip young people with the skills and confidence they need to thrive, regardless of their background.

Last week, members of our Capital Team, Katie Partington Howarth, Chief Capital Officer, Theo Wolffe, Capital Associate, and Sophia Stevens, Capital Analyst, delivered a presentation to students from Appalachian State University as part of their annual visit.

The session provided insights into Ariel Re’s business model and capital strategy, sparking thoughtful questions and engaging discussion throughout.

It was great to connect with the students and share more about the reinsurance industry. We thank them for visiting and wish them all the best in their studies!

On 14 May, our Ariel Re London team joined Surfers Against Sewage ’s Million Mile Clean campaign as part of our initiative. 🌿

Together, the team helped clean London’s streets and green spaces, collecting litter and tackling plastic pollution to help protect local waterways and the environment.

The Million Mile Clean campaign mobilises communities across the UK to remove waste from outdoor spaces and prevent it from reaching rivers and oceans.

A great day of teamwork and giving back to the community.

As part of our initiative, our Ariel Re Bermuda team spent time giving back to the community through a hands-on volunteering day at the Bermuda SPCA 🐾

Founded in 1919, the Bermuda SPCA supports animal welfare across the island through rescue, care, education, and adoption services.

Over the course of three hours, our team helped clean, sort, organise, and power wash their warehouse, filling two skips donated by Ariel Re along the way. After all the hard but rewarding work, the team also had the chance to meet some of the animals waiting for their future homes.

A big thank you to the SPCA team for welcoming us and sharing more about their mission and the incredible work they do for animals in Bermuda.
