In 1987, Wim Vandekeybus burst onto the international scene with What the Body Does Not Remember, the first creation of his newly founded company Ultima Vez. The piece, raw and uncompromising, shook the foundations of contemporary dance and won the prestigious Bessie Award in New York for its “brutal confrontation of dance and music.”In 2026, this landmark work returns in a reinvented form: a live music edition created together with the world-renowned Ensemble Intercontemporain. More than a revival, it is an evolution — enriched with 17 minutes of new music by Thierry De Mey and a newly choreographed scene that pushes the work’s legacy of risk, instinct, and survival even further.
