SONICO announces the first part of its 2026–27 season.

Between September and December 2026, the ensemble will present five major projects across Europe:

• Scandinavian Tour — A CELEBRATION OF THE UNKNOWN
• Netherlands Tour — THE EDGE OF TANGO, powered by RADAR
• Belgium Tour — THE FUTURE WAS TODAY
• Festival Tango Présence — Paris
• SINFONIA DE TANGO with the Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra

This season confirms SONICO’s artistic direction: bringing modern tango to new stages, new audiences, and new formats — from intimate concert halls to staged performances and symphonic collaborations.

SONICO has been selected to participate in the 2026 Barlow Special Commission — a one-time special edition granted exclusively to tango.

Supported by Brigham Young University (Utah, USA), this prestigious international commission will fund a major new work for quinteto moderno de tango.

The winning composition will be premiered in 2028 by an international consortium formed by:
• SONICO
• Quinteto Revolucionario
• Ramiro Gallo Quinteto

We are honored to announce that SONICO’s album 𝙍𝙊𝙑𝙄𝙍𝘼 100 has received the Premio Tango Siglo XXI, awarded by the Argentine specialized press.

Recorded in Buenos Aires for Rovira’s centenary, 𝙍𝙊𝙑𝙄𝙍𝘼 100 represents the culmination of SONICO’s long-term commitment to historically informed performance, repertoire reconstruction, and the international dissemination of Rovira’s legacy.

SONICO concluded ROVIRA100, a year-long international project dedicated to the centenary of Argentine composer Eduardo Rovira.
Over the past year, the project brought together concerts, recordings, premieres, archival research, interdisciplinary collaborations, and new productions across Europe and Latin America.

Highlights included:
— Performances at Libertad (exCCK) and @ in Buenos Aires
— The recording of the album ROVIRA100 at
— THE FUTURE WAS TODAY at CC Strombeek
— SONICO’s debut at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg
— Extensive media coverage in Argentina and Europe
— A first symphonic collaboration with Brussels Philharmonic at BOZAR
— PASOS EN LA NOCHE (2050), the first Argentine staging of Rovira’s tango ballet “Buenos Aires”
— The premiere of Canciones Contemporáneas Argentinas at Lunalia Festival
