Haobam Nalini has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award (2025) for the Manipuri language for her short story collection Kanglamdriba Eephut.

This recognition from the Sahitya Akademi—India’s National Academy of Letters—highlights the strength and creativity of contemporary Manipuri literature. Her collection Kanglamdriba Eephut has been praised for its storytelling, cultural depth, and portrayal of human emotions rooted in Manipuri society.

For the Manipuri literary community, this is a proud and inspiring moment. The award not only honors Haobam Nalini’s contribution but also brings greater national attention to the richness of writing in the Manipuri language.

Yumnam Jatra Singh has been honoured with the Padma Shri Award 2026 for his outstanding contribution to Manipur’s traditional dance and cultural heritage, with special emphasis on Nata Sankirtana.

Nata Sankirtana, a classical performance tradition deeply rooted in Manipur’s Vaishnav cultural practices, is internationally recognised for its spiritual and artistic significance. Through decades of dedication, Singh has played a crucial role in preserving, performing, and passing on this revered art form to future generations.

The honour recognises his lifelong commitment to safeguarding Manipur’s cultural identity and keeping its classical traditions alive.

Among the silt-rich deposits of the Chirang River in Manipur’s Imphal Valley researchers examining fossil plant remains have found an astonishingly intact bamboo stem, carrying the ghostly marks of long-vanished thorns.

As per Press Information Bureau (PIB) this earliest thorny bamboo fossil from Asia could rewrite a chapter of the continent’s botanical history.

"Bamboo fossils are extremely rare because their hollow stems and fibrous tissues decay rapidly, leaving little trace in the geological record. Scientists usually understood bamboo defences mainly by comparing modern species with their habitats".

মনিপুরী ভাষা বিষয়ক "মনিপুরী ভাষা" বইটি লিখেছেন বিশিষ্ট গবেষক, লেখক এ কে শেরাম। ৮৮ পৃষ্ঠার তথ্যবহুল বইটিতে আছে মনিপুরী ভাষার জন্ম ইতিহাস, লিপি কাহিনী, ব্যাকরণ সহ প্রবাদ প্রবচন, লোকসাহিত্য বিষয়ক প্রবন্ধ। "মনিপুরী ভাষা গবেষণা ও উন্নয়ন সংস্থা", বাংলাদেশ বইটি প্রকাশ করে ২০১৪ সালে।
