গত কয়েক বছরে রেললাইনের বিভিন্ন স্পট থেকে প্রায় দেড়শ মৃতদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। সবচেয়ে বেশি মৃতদেহ পাওয়া যায় আখাউড়া- ভৈরব- কিশোরগঞ্জ- কসবা এবং বি-বাড়িয়া হয়ে নরসিংদী পর্যন্ত। পুলিশ এই লাশগুলোর বেশিরভাগ অজ্ঞাত পরিচয় দিয়ে আত্মহত্যা হিসেবে রেকর্ড করে। তারপর মর্গ হয়ে মাটিচাপা। লাশের পরিচয় হিন্দু কিংবা মুসলিম এখানে দেখা হয় না। ডোম মৃত ব্যক্তির জামাকাপড় রেলওয়ে ডোমঘরের সামনে ঝুলিয়ে রাখে।
যদি বছর দুয়েকের ভেতর মা-বাবা এসে জামা কাপড় দেখে তাদের সন্তাকে যদি সনাক্ত করতে পারে তাহলে কবর দেখিয়ে দেয়া হয়। তবে জামাকাপড় রোদে শুকিয়ে এবং বৃষ্টিতে ভিজে নষ্ট হয়ে যায় বেশিরভাগ সময়। জামাকাপড় দেখে কারও পরিচয় জানা অসম্ভব হয়ে পড়ে তখন।
রেললাইনে পাওয়া এ লাশগুলোর বেশিরভাগই কিন্তু মার্ডার কেস। দশ-বিশ-পাঁচশ টাকা কিংবা পকেটে থাকা মোবাইল ফোন ছিনতাই করার জন্য মার্ডারগুলো করা হয়। বিশ টাকার জন্যও ট্রেনে থাকা ছিনতাইকারীরা মানুষ খুন করছে।
ছিনতাইয়ের নিয়মটা হচ্ছে ট্রেনের দুই বগির মাঝখানে করিডোরের মতো থাকে। দুই পাশে দরজা এবং বাথরুম। রাতের ট্রেনে এসব জায়গায় সুবিধামত সময়ে লোক পেলে ছিনতাইকারী চক্রের দুইজন পেছন থেকে আক্রমণ করে। আক্রমণের নিয়ম হচ্ছে গামছাকে পেঁচিয়ে চিকন করা হয় প্রথমে।

তারপর দুই মাথা দুইজন ধরে যাকে আক্রমণ করা হবে, তার গলায় পেছন থেকে এক প্যাঁচ দিয়ে দু’পাশ থেকে হেঁছকা টান। ১৫ সেকেন্ডের ভেতরই ওই লোক মারা যাবে। না মরলেও তার জীবন ওইখানেই শেষ।

এরপর ভিকটিমের পকেট থেকে যা নেওয়ার নিয়ে পাশের দরজা দিয়ে ফেলে দেবে। রাতের ট্রেনে সবাই ঘুমায়। তাছাড়া ট্রেনের আওয়াজ থাকে। কেউ কিচ্ছু টের পাবে না। পুরো কাজটা করতে সময় লাগে সর্বোচ্চ দেড় মিনিট। এই ছিনতাইকারী চক্রের লোক ধরা পড়ে কিন্তু আবার জামিনে বের হয়।

আদালতের কাছে এভিডেন্স থাকে না পর্যাপ্ত। এভিডেন্স না থাকলে বিচারও করা সম্ভব হয় না। এরকম তথ্য জানিয়ে রাতের ট্রেনে যারা ভ্রমণ করেন তাদের সবাইকে সতর্ক থাকার অনুরোধ করেছেন পুলিশের এই সাব-ইন্সপেক্টর।
