🌱 প্রতিটি চারা তাই শুধু একটি গাছ নয়—এটি একটি সবুজ ভবিষ্যতের প্রতিশ্রুতি, একটি সহনশীল জলবায়ুর ভিত্তি !

🙌 জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাব মোকাবিলা এবং প্রকৃতি পুনরুদ্ধার এর লক্ষ্য নিয়ে সরকার পাঁচ বছরব্যাপী ২৫ কোটি বৃক্ষরোপণের জাতীয় কর্মসূচি শুরু করেছে।

🌳🤝এই কর্মসূচি সঙ্গে সংহতি প্রকাশ করে Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh-supported তার ১৮টি কর্ম এলাকায় ২.২০ লক্ষ বনজ, ফলজ, ঔষধি ও ম্যানগ্রোভ গাছ রোপণে করবে। এটি শুধু বৃক্ষরোপণ নয়; বরং পরিবেশ পুনরুদ্ধার, জীববৈচিত্র্য সংরক্ষণ এবং জলবায়ু সহনশীলতা গড়ে তোলার একটি দীর্ঘমেয়াদি উদ্যোগ।

💚 সময়ের সাথে সাথে এসব গাছ পরিপক্বতায় পৌঁছালে প্রতিবছর আনুমানিক ৬,৭০০ মেট্রিক টন কার্বন ডাই-অক্সাইড শোষণ করবে এবং ৪,৮০০ মেট্রিক টন অক্সিজেন নিঃসরণ করবে। ফলশ্রুতিতে, এই সবুজ উদ্যোগ বাতাসের মান উন্নয়নে সহায়তা করবে, জলবায়ুজনিত দুর্যোগের বিরুদ্ধে প্রাকৃতিক সুরক্ষা বলয় শক্তিশালী করবে এবং বাংলাদেশের দীর্ঘমেয়াদি জলবায়ু অভিযোজন ও টেকসই উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জনে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রাখবে।

As climate change increases the frequency and intensity of disasters, strengthening resilience has never been more important. This insightful talk show, hosted by Channel i, explores the growing challenges of climate change and the critical role of disaster risk management in reducing vulnerabilities and building resilience.

During the talk show, the Swiss-supported CALL Programme highlighted how it contributes to promoting climate resilience in Bangladesh's leather sector by raising worker awareness, improving occupational safety, enhancing health services, and strengthening social protection measures. Special emphasis was placed on women workers, who comprise a significant share of programme participants.

Bangladesh’s tannery sector generates approximately 20,000 m³ of liquid waste and 232 tonnes of solid waste every day, creating significant risks for water, soil, air quality, biodiversity, and public health. In industrial hubs such as Savar, inadequate wastewater treatment has contributed to the pollution of rivers reduced agricultural productivity, and health challenges for workers and nearby communities.
Through the Climate Action at Local Level programme, 🇨🇭 is supporting practical solutions in industrial areas. The programme has engaged 57 factories and assisted 20 tanneries in adopting cleaner production practices through:
✅ Improved Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) and Central ETPs
✅ Chrome recovery systems
✅ Environmentally friendly chemicals
✅ Water-saving technologies
✅ Better waste management practices

These efforts are helping industries reduce pollution and create safer conditions for workers and surrounding communities.
Switzerland remains committed to advancing climate action and sustainable development, contributing to a cleaner and healthier future for Bangladesh.

The dialogue showcased various Swiss environmental initiatives in Bangladesh implemented in partnership with Swiss NGOs, local NGOs, communities, and local actors. Through this event, Switzerland expressed solidarity with the Government of Bangladesh's initiative to plant 25 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐞 (250 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧) 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬 over the next five years. 🤝🌱

The Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh-supported CALL Programme, together with its nine consortium partners, highlighted how it supports marginalised communities through diverse climate actions to build resilience and contribute to a greener Bangladesh. Collectively, the programme aims to plant 200𝐊 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬 over the coming years. 🌱

Young people from local communities in Satkhira and Naogaon districts joined the event virtually and inaugurated the plantation campaign. 🤝🌿

Mr Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Water Resources, joined the event virtually. Mr Reto Renggli, Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh, emphasised the importance of collective action in delivering lasting climate solutions, stressing that global commitments must translate into local action. Mr Diepak Elmer, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Cooperation at the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh, delivered the welcome note and closing remarks, highlighting the strong partnership and shared commitment to building a climate-resilient Bangladesh.

Senior government officials from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), the Economic Relations Division (ERD), and the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), along with Swiss partners, CALL consortium members, and representatives from the Swiss private sector, attended the event.
