Modworkx Customs came about after years of toiling and patience in trying to get the masses to understand that a computer is more than just a box sitting at the bottom right/left of your feet. Realizing that nothing had changed since 2004, apart from the inclusion of "gaming" peripherals in our market place, it was a natural transition to push the boundaries of what systembuilding can be. This build was something that we'd been planning for about 2 years. Although the newcomers to this page will think we deal with computers or small form factor builds and perhaps some audio tinkering here and there, we were meaning to do keyboard builds along the way seeing how interesting it seemed to us, in general.
We still have a small form factor build lined up for Hosni, one that's been in the planning stage for about 2 years now but we're finally going to make a step towards implementing said ideas/plans into a build. While that is left gestating, we noticed that Hosni was a proper candidate to jump onboard the mechanical keyboard band wagon but we needed to figure out what sort of boxes we'd need to tick in order to convince him he's better moving away from the keyboard on his office laptop.
For all those who don't know, Hosni's office work does have him crunching numbers pretty much all day, so this meant we needed a keyboard with the option for a numpad. We looked high and low but all we could find were really expensive boards and the same old boring/traditional layout.
Step in Keychron. We've been eyeing this brand from a long while and although we were intrigued by the people who started off the company/brand, we were having doubts on investing in their products as a lot of people had bashed them on YT and their own...reviews. It was only until we stumbled upon Tech Diversity and their discount offer during the New Year which is when we thought, let's give it a shot and if things go well, we can move our way up from there. If not, then lesson learned an we don't carry forward with Keychron. We placed an order for a bunch of Keychron gear to help get the rest of Lutfi's family onboard the Keychron train. Lutfi's sister did need a new mouse, so he figured why not get her something built well and is light, hence the M1.
48 hours later and we're surely eating our doubts for breakfast, lunch and dinner(and then some more). We were pleasantly surprised with the keycaps that came out of the box and the key switches that came with the board as part of the assembled k**b variant seen on Keychron's site. We threw in a Wuque Studio switch puller as we were prepared to swab the switches on the Q5 if the switches sounded horrible, to us.
We pulled out a keycap set that we'd been sitting on for about a year, in order to surprise Hosni as he's an automotive enthusiast, ma'asha'Allah. Seeing his reaction when we showed him the final rendition of the keyboard made our day!
We, here at Modworkx Customs, have spent a good amount of time writing up the anecdotes for (almost)every image in the album and we hope you lovely folks will equally take the time to read through them.
Conversely, we hope these images do justice to what we've been trying to strive towards, project wise. Conveying the quality of the materials used by Keychron (and their design choices) as well as the kind folks behind Tech Diversity from whom we'd purchased our gear. Each, serving as a cog in a machine, in the grand scheme of things, i.e, a keyboard fitting for our client's needs/use case scenario.
Enjoy the album + We hope you all have a great day/week ahead!
Peace out!
