Here are 10 Lessons from the book The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak:
1. Love transforms us: Every genuine love and friendship changes us. If we stay the same after loving, we haven't loved enough. Welcome the growth that love brings, even if it hurts.
2. Look deeper: Don't be fooled by appearances. See beyond the surface and appreciate the hidden beauty and meaning in others and yourself. Celebrate diversity and open your heart to new connections.
3. Silence speaks: Words are not always needed. Listen to the whispers of the soul, the language of the heart, and the wisdom of silence.
4. Accept doubt and imperfection: Don't be afraid of questioning and revising. Perfection is a myth. Accept your doubts and flaws as part of your path to a deeper understanding of yourself and the world.
5. Release expectations: Free yourself from rigid expectations. True love and happiness require flexibility, acceptance, and letting life happen naturally.
6. Embrace paradox: Life is full of contradictions and paradoxes. Don't look for fixed categories or definitions. Learn to appreciate the complexities and accept the coexistence of opposites.
7. Find the Beloved within: True love starts with self-love. Acknowledge the divine spark within yourself and others. Honor your own unique journey and connect with your inner essence.
8. Learn from pain: Pain and challenges are unavoidable, but they don't have to define you. Learn from your experiences, turn your wounds into wisdom, and become stronger and more compassionate.
9. Quiet the inner critic: Your worst critic lives within. Learn to silence the negative voices and nurture self-compassion. Celebrate your achievements and forgive yourself for your errors.
10. Love knows no limits: True love is not bound by time, space, or social norms. Embrace the universal nature of love that unites us all and opens the way to deeper understanding and acceptance.

This was the first book I read in 2024 and I find it really hard to review? Part memoir, part self-help IWTDBIWTET is the recorded conversations of an unidentified person and their therapist. It’s an easy read and won’t take you very long to get through but it’s very readable, honest and for me, a thought provoking way to start the new year.
Have you read this one? Ps - swipe to see the goodies!
