জাতীয় চলচিত্র পুরষ্কার প্রাপ্ত ও একুশে পদকে ভুষিত মনিরুজ্জামান মনির এর লেখা "প্রথম বাংলাদেশ" গেয়েছিলেন সেই সময়কার বিখ্যাত অভিনেতা ও সঙ্গীত শিল্পী জাফর ইকবালের বোন প্রখ্যাত বাংলাদেশী সঙ্গীত শিল্পী শাহনাজ রহমতুল্লাহ। গানটির সুর করেছিলেন জাতীয় চলচিত্র পুরষ্কার প্রাপ্ত আলাউদ্দিন আলী ।

আমার মনে পড়ে ছোটবেলার কথা। স্কুলে বাৎসরিক প্রোগ্রামে যখন প্রথম এই গানটিতে আমরা বন্ধু বান্ধব রা একসাথে এই গানটি গেয়েছিলাম। সেই সময়ের কথা ভেবে আবেগে আপ্লূত হয়ে যাই। এখনো প্রায়ই আমি এই গানটি শুনি। গানটিতে আলাদা একটা টান বোধ কাজ করে নিজের দেশের প্রতি । এত এত দেশপ্রেমিকের মায়ায় বানানো গানটি বাদ দিয়ে ভারতের রবীন্দ্রনাথের গানটি কেন এই দেশের জাতীয় সঙ্গীত হলো আমার বুঝে আসে না। ভারতের নাগরিক দ্বারা রচয়িত গানটি কোন ভাবেই এই দেশের সঙ্গীত হতে পারে না। এটা সময়ের দাবি।

"প্রথম বাংলাদেশ" শাহনাজ রহমতুল্লাহর গাওয়া একটি দেশাত্মবোধক গান। গানটি ১৯৭০-এর দশকের শেষ দিকে বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশনের বর্ণালি সঙ্গীতানুষ্ঠানে প্রথম প্রচারিত হয়।
