According to reports from Turkish activist Ersin Celik, Thunberg was subjected to severe mistreatment during her detention. Celik described witnessing Israeli forces dragging Thunberg by her hair, beating her, and coercing her into kissing the Israeli flag. These actions were reportedly intended as a warning to other activists.

Thunberg was held in a cell infested with bedbugs, deprived of adequate food and water, and denied access to legal representation. She was later transferred to Israel’s high-security Ketziot prison along with other detainees. Despite being pressured to sign documents she did not understand, Thunberg received legal counsel and was eventually deported
