A Spoon Made Of Gold ...........Saiful Islam Ripon.....................

A spoon made of gold was searched
during my whole life but was not gotten
on my hand ;
I have seen many gorgeous palaces
by the sides of streets in this city,
And the spoon was on the hand of some
adolescent girls those were sat
on moonlit-bathed balcony of those palaces ;
Spoon was on the hands of snow-white anglo-indian girls on the streets by the side of church on Sunday in Dhaka city,
Many days I have seen those girls onto the way of church,
Aha! They were very fascinating,
and their voice were melodious,
But they were lost in between Nineteen sixty to
seventy.

A gold-spoon was searched during my whole life in the pages of my textbooks, in my job, in every steps of initiation ;
Spoon was observed in front of me,
But it was never gotten on my hand.

I deceived my soul by looking for a gold-spoon,
Spring have been become faded
and I forgot my prayers for that spoon.
Yet I had run after that scarce thing in winter to summer, in rain, in storm and in the mist of early winter.

Now a days I don’t search that gold-spoon,
Now I look only for a plate with food in due time.

Discovery of America and Canada .........Saiful Islam Ripon...................

Native Americans arrived in America around
15000 BC.
They were present in all over the continent
even in the Bahamas.
At that time Bahama was an inaccessible country laid between Cuba and Florida
in north Atlantic ocean.
Here at first America continent was discovered.

Colombus was an unconquerable navigator
who was born in Genoa in Italy in 1451.
At that time Genoa was an independent country ;
So he at first got a job as navigator in Genoa,
then Portugal and later in Spain ;
In 1492 Colombus left Spain with three ships
to explore the way of India
but he made landfall in Bahama ;
He returned to Spain with a number of captured natives.
At the same time he discovered West Indies.
In his next two voyages he discovered
coast land of some countries of northern South America ;
At last in 1502 on his fourth voyage
he discovered the eastern coast of Central America.

This discovery started European colonization
in the vast land of Americas ;
Colonization was started by Spain, Portugal,
France and Britain and gradually with more countries.
The America was the British America since 1607 to 1776 and London was the capital of America.
But France refused the overlordship of Britain ;
Then a war was started in 1756
And in 1763 Britain defeated France ;
Then stamp act of 1765 was signed by Britain, France, Spain and Portugal ;
So London was remained as capital as it was
and a series of taxes were imposed.
Maximum area of Canada were occupied by Britain from France in that war
And possession was confirmed.
Yet in 1776 United States of America was formed and has gotten Independence ;
And in 1867 Canada was formed with new constitution in the present place.

The Old Man And His Mind........Saiful Islam Ripon...............

Hey old man, let's go ;
Leave the hand of your old woman,
Let's make a journey on those way
whereat your vernal footfalls had been leaned
in eternity ;
Can you remember that adolescent girl,
For whom you had gone many times
to the desired courtyard with effusive heart?
But you never knew that whether her heart was eager for you or not?
You didn’t know whether she gazed towards your path with impatient eyes or not?
The courtyard was filled with various trees,
That girl wandered there absentmindedly
And with her own thought on the shades of trees.
You had never kept your hand on her hand ;
And you never knew that whether those likings were love or not.

Old man, let's make a journey on that courtyard,
whereat sometimes you stood there with that girl,
But you didn’t know whether liking and love are same thing or not?

Old man look at this street,
This street is not remained same as it was before ;
Here silence is absent, solitude is absent ;
Look at that house of that girl,
The house is completely silent,
Nobody is there and on courtyard.
But a flock of sparrow are chirping
And doves are cooing on the desolate courtyard.
That girl will not be found again in this world ;
Her soul was departed ;
I know you don’t feel pain for her departure
in course of time ;
Old man, let's go home to your old woman.

Bridge of Highest Court ......Saiful Islam Ripon..............

Only a few days ago spring-winds were present
on the passed pathway,
In the restless wind I have travelled
in all directions, in all horizons,
Now drought of late spring is manifested
in early spring
And fires are falling as rain from sun.

Dusts are flowing in the wind in all habitations,
Urban lives are unpleasant for sound pollution,
Peace is absent even in lone Prairie
In all regions rivers are laid as the mythic river
Boitoroni,
Wiry bridge of Pul-sirat comes forth near to legs from the riverside gradually.

Many days and many nights have been passed
in the world,
Many days I have travelled
in many travelling-grounds,
Now calling of night and death are coming
from the riverbank of Boitoroni to all towns.

Many days and many nights have been passed on earth,
Many days I have travelled on road and in Prairie ;
The court of God is coming near gradually,
Body-particles have to move faster than the sound through the wire.

Dream ....Saiful Islam Ripon.............

Currentless brain of mine is laid
into the skull motionless ;
It is dreamless, hopeless, gainless
and staying on the border of cheerfulness
and cheerlessness ;
Small pieces of gain and loss that were appeared in dreams
Now have been disappeared in past,
In those dreams all the visible happiness
were very little according to apparent sadness.
Much intolerable pains were arrived
in my pulverized dreams ;
The reminiscences that made laugh and tears
those reminiscences are now grey, faded
and are on the way of oblivion.

Now I don’t dream further,
Consciousness is also motionless ;
I have also travelled from road to road
with the company of travellers
And have looked for fascinating mountain pass, caravanserai ;
And then my dreams spreaded their wings
in the sky and in winds,
And I have flown like as the clouds in far to afar
places, country to country and have touched
the Himalayan ;
Then my dreams have fallen by the side of
mountain as snowfalls, as the water of melted
ice of Himalayan.

Now I don’t dream further,
Dreams are sleeping beside the motionless
consciousness into my skull.

Common Love .......Saiful Islam Ripon...............

When I have waited much time for an innocent love
Then at the last edge of early youth
you have come in my life ;
But your love contained only liking
and some dreams for future, that’s all.
That love what I expected in my early youth,
That love for which my heart was veiled with solitude that love was absent.

In early youth my times have been passed
like a bookworm in my textbook ;
Grace of youth was absent on my appearance
And brightness was absent on my clothing and ornaments ;
Therefore desired love was on far away
Or you have left it on another way,
That's why my love moved round and round
around your heart ;
That love which I desired in early youth
that love have remained scarce all through my youth.

Here Spring is Absent .......Saiful Islam Ripon................

Hey girl, don't come here,
Here spring don’t appear,
Here fogs are appeared all day long,
Here sunbeams don’t arrive on the balcony
at all,
Path is slippery by algae on drenched soil,
Two white hands of yours will be frost
by the cold wind.

Hey girl, don’t come here,
Here flowers are not bloomed in spring,
Birds don’t sing,
Crows croak loudly all day long,
All smile and laugh of your white face
will be removed which you belonged.

Horizon of Ocean ......Saiful Islam Ripon...............

When Columbus had been discovering various coast land of America continent,
At that time in 1498 Vasco Da Gama arrived in Kerala state of India with his fleets.
The route from Atlantic ocean to Indian ocean
was more dangerous and longer than the route
from Europe to America ;
These two explorers sailed their fleets from two adjacent countries, in same decade,
Columbus from Spain and Vasco Da Gama from Portugal.

Fleet of Vasco Da Gama arrived in Kerala with dozen dozen ships,
On the way they have lost many vessels and more than thousand of lives.
But yet the ocean route to link Europe and Asia was discovered ;
Consequently commercial transactions have been started,
And new mornings have been arrived ;
Portugal begins to obtain spices as ginger,
turmeric, cinnamon etc. for their motherland .
Portuguese governing body was formed in 1505 in Goa.
In 1524 Vasco Da Gama was appointed as
governor and viceroy of Portuguese India ;
But he was infected by malaria,
And he was died after three months of his arrival in Goa .

But business were not stopped,
Various countries of Europe began to arrive in eastern India although the route was hazardous and dangerous.
Britain brought clothes, and obtained spices
and various products from India ;
East India company sailed their fleet to India
since 1601;
In 1612 they established their first factory
in Surat of Guzrat.
In1639 they made their first fort in Madras ;
Later in 1757 they occupied Bengal
And independence of India begin to set by the side of Bhagirathi river of west Bengal ;
Therefore crack of India were increased overall ;
Probably at that time Maharashtra to Madras was the kingdom of Maratha empire,
And Mogal emperor was ruling Delhi to Peshawar .

In 1787 first steam driven vessel was invented in America ;
In 1858 first steam driven steamer and ship started their journey on long route ;
In 1862 steam driven ship of England started their journey in England-India-England route ;
Then the route was of extensive distance and haphazard ;
Many bays, seas and ocean made all journeys difficult.
In 1869 Suez canal was opened ;
Then about 5500 miles of the route were reduced.
But France and Britain made a concessionary company,
They took the regulation at the adjacent ends of the canal on the sea.
Until 1956 they operate the company.
And in 1956 every country got concessionary facility ;
All the ships of Srilanka, India and Bangladesh
are now can go to Europe and America easily,
And everybody is beneficiary.

Times of us have gone behind very fast
You and me are not stood as before,
We are misfit on moving life in modern era
Our bodies feel cold even in spring .

Only dreadful and rough days are present
in front of us ,
Poverty also knocks our door ;
Times of us have gone behind very fast
We still feel fatigue which were caused by tiredness ,
Now we are misfit on moving life in modern era,
How do we pass remaining sunburnt, fiery path of our life ?

A little piece of careful roof
constantly stay above my head,
It’s a secure shade of a homeless man like me
And it is providing protection like a political prisoner's cell ;
Here verses of love don’t arise into my heart,
Glories of love are covered with rust,
Trouble and pleasure appears by turns.

Some evil days also appear like as long terrifying dream ;
Yet my mind is safe with shade beneath this roof ;
Although I am homeless yet it is my home ;
Here my resting period is better than my wayfaring time .

Faces of Some Princess
[This poem is dedicated to my daughterlike Facebook friend Nilufar Chowdhury (Nina)]........Saiful Islam Ripon..............

When she appears wood-pigeons begin singing,
It seems that morning sunshine have appeared
in the mist of winter and are touching them
with pleasant warmth ;
Her fragrance causes the arisen of dead princess into the mind of all gentlemen.
I have also gotten the fragrance of Amytis
by the side of her path,
Amytis was that dead peerless princess of hilly kingdom
whose husband built the Hanging Gardens of Babylon
as like as a beautiful hill for her satisfaction ;
Or when she walks I find that Helen is walking in my own city,
that was built in my mind in sleeping period ;
With sleeping eyes I had seen those princess
on my courtyard.

This girl will go away with her princesslike aroma,
Wood-pigeons are waiting in winter night
when the girl of twilight will come back
with a cluster of morning-sunshine,
She has gone beneath the slope of horizon
in twilight
and definitely will come back after the night.

Assets and Liabilities ...........Saiful Islam Ripon...............
Do I was a cursed person ?
Or do I was a descendant of any cursed ancestor ?
Human being always carries the consequences
of his deeds on his shoulder,
Or simultaneously he carries the assets and liabilities of his ancestor.
It is slightly possible that only I am responsible for my present status
And it is the consequences of my deeds,
Yet I am lucky because I never begged anything
like a cursed beggar in my life .

A free life like a rabbit was conquered by me ;
When tender leaves and twigs grow on trees
in spiring
Then I have walked at the edge of forest
for eating them and for observing ;
An eagle was sat on the peak of mountain
beyond my eyesight,
He flew and followed me through the air
for hunting me in flight ;
But at last I was safe from his claw.

Yet I still carry some distress on my shoulder on my way,
This is the consequences of my deeds or unavoidable fate ;
Now I don’t face the hard days of severe trial with fire,
Even sunburnt paths don't arise further ;
Now I bear the fruits of my deeds on my shoulder
And am walking towards a graveyard through a smooth road of arbour .
