🌸Mexican bean beetle (Epilachna varivestis) is a type of lady beetle widely known as an agricultural pest. They can be found wherever the beans are planted. The most easy organic way to deter these pests is to intercrop petunias with beans. Petunia helps to deter beetles and other harmful pests from the garden.

🌸🍓Petunia also pair well with strawberries and garlic. This trio helps each other to grow well and deter pests. The petunia attracts the pollinators and increases the changes of pollination of strawberry flowers ensuring higher fruit bearing with good quality yield.

So, if you are thinking of growing strawberries. Plant some petunia seedlings and garlic with them too. And watch the difference how the quality of your strawberries harvested improves.

The Ajwain seeds are used as spice in Indian and bengali cuisine. The flowers look beautiful. I can't get enough of it. We planted them on spare spaces in containers. They are growing like crazy !

Did you know that the immature jackfruit flowers are edible ? People of south Asia eat these raw as a sweet sour and savoury little treat during the evening.

I did make some yesterday. These were collected and soaked in warm water for some times. I chopped them into thin slices and again into thin stick like slices. And soaked them in water again to remove any latex like liquid coming from them. I drained the water and added salt, chopped green chillis, tamarind paste from fresh pods, sugar, chopped coriander, and chopped mint leaves according to taste. Then I mixed the mixture really well somewhat crushing the jackfruit flowers with hand. And voila ! Sweet and savoury jackfruit flower is ready to eat !

I know it may sound strange to some. Some may like it others may not. Adding the tamarind paste brings out all the flavours of the flower in the recipe. Raw tamarind paste is a must in this preparation. So, don't skip it.

Oxalis stricta (wood sorrel) or wood sorrel is a w**d. But, not all w**ds are bad. Every living thing has a reason to exist to help us with something we haven't discovered yet.

🌳If you have grape or tangerine or citrus fruit tree growing in your home in containers, try growing them at the base of the fruit trees. They are great at repelling pests, attract natural enemies of spider mites.

Cover crop in my tiny vegetable patch. These are plants grown from beans I sprouted from my pantry.

I broadcast them on the vegetables patch let them grow to improve soil fertility and stop top soil erosion.They fix nitrogen in the soil making them a great companion plants to plant with nitrogen loving plants like corn, and potatoes.

⚠️ Don't plant beans with any plants in Allium family.All I can say is that they aren't just good friends!

Ramadan is knocking at the door. So, we have planted a ton of peppermint in our garden. We add peppermint in making tropical fruit juices of every kind with which we break our fast. Mint tea isnt popular here. I personally dont drink peppermint tea. But, we use a ton of them in green salad, fruit salad. These are an important key ingredient of making a mildly spicy green chilli sour yogurt drink called "Borhani". If you haven't had it before know that you have missed the most amazing healthy drink of your life ! Yummy. Cant wait for the Ramadan to come !

How do you prep your garden before arrival of any particular occasion in your country?

I sprouted some Beans from my kitchen pantry to plant them in my little vegetable patch. I want use them as cover crop, to increase the soil fertility and prevent soil erosion. These are great to fix nitrogen from the air to soil, and improve soil fertility status, help to prevent soil erosion.
