STATEMENT BY RAJIV RISHYAKARAN, ADUN FOR BUKIT GASING

A MONUMENTAL MILESTONE FOR PUBLIC HEALTHCARE: WELCOMING THE JOINT DECISION ON THE NEW PUBLIC HOSPITAL SITE

PETALING JAYA, 27th May 2026 — I wholeheartedly welcome the joint announcement made today by the Minister of Health and the Menteri Besar of Selangor regarding the finalized site for the new public hospital. This decision marks a monumental milestone for the residents of Bukit Gasing and the wider Petaling Jaya community, who have long endured the strain of underserved public healthcare infrastructure in our area.

Securing a dedicated public hospital for our constituents has been a core mission of mine for over a decade. I first raised the urgent need for this facility back in 2016. This advocacy is formally documented in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly records, notably during the sitting on 30 March 2016 (Selangor Hansard, 30 Mac 2016), where I persistently pushed the state government to identify and allocate suitable land to bridge this crucial healthcare gap.

"To see a policy that I have championed since 2016 finally reach this critical turning point is incredibly rewarding. This is not just a win for policy advocacy; it is a massive victory for the people of Bukit Gasing who deserve accessible, affordable, and quality public healthcare close to home."

I want to express my deepest gratitude to both the Ministry of Health and the Selangor State Government for their collaborative spirit and political will in finalizing this site. Witnessing both the Federal and State leadership align on this project is the culmination of years of persistent groundwork, debates, and community feedback.

With the site now locked in, my focus shifts to ensuring that the next phases of planning and construction are executed without unnecessary delay. I look forward to working closely with both the Ministry and the State government to ensure this hospital is built to serve our community efficiently.

From the stretch between Jalan 12/14 and Jalan 12/12, there was originally a buffer zone that was left undeveloped over time. It became overgrown and was frequently affected by illegal dumping of construction waste and abandoned motorcycles, with residents also raising concerns about safety and snake sightings.

Today, I’m glad this space has been converted into a 300-metre linear park, with barricades installed to prevent lorries from entering and to curb illegal dumping.

The project, funded by MBPJ at over RM107,000, was implemented in two phases—Phase 1 completed end-2024 as a pilot, and Phase 2 completed in May 2025. Safety railings and handrails were also installed, especially along edge-adjacent sections, to ensure safer use for all, particularly seniors.

It has now been nearly a year since completion, and I’m encouraged to see residents regularly using the walkway as a safer and more convenient route. Existing greenery was also largely preserved to maintain the area’s natural character.

As part of our efforts to help senior citizens stay active and healthy, we recently organised a Senior Citizen Mobility Workshop together with a group of amazing seniors who shared practical ways to stay active while growing older 💪🌿

One important reminder from the session is that exercise becomes even more important with age. Staying mobile and active helps maintain muscle strength, balance, and overall well-being, allowing seniors to continue living independently and confidently✨

Even though the weather wasn’t the best that day, many still came for the session. It really shows how meaningful and appreciated community programmes for senior citizens are.

These gatherings are not just about art, but also about companionship, joy, and creating spaces where our senior citizens feel seen and valued. We hope to continue bringing more programmes that can benefit them and brighten their days.

And of course, we must never forget the years of hard work and sacrifice they have contributed in building the society we enjoy today. 🌸
