This Yogurt Hack for Wild Clay Ceramics Will Blow Your Mind! 🤯🎨

In this video, I’m sharing an ancient ceramic coloring technique using wild clay and natural materials. The process involves yogurt, copper wire, and a Dakota pit kiln to create stunning, one-of-a-kind results.

Step 1: Shaping with Wild Clay

I started by shaping the ceramics using wild clay, a raw material sourced directly from nature. This gives each piece a unique, organic character and connects the process to the earth.

Step 2: Coating with Yogurt and Natural Ingredients

Next, I coated the ceramics with yogurt, which acts as a natural binder and creates a patina effect. Over the yogurt layer, I sprinkled chromium oxide, salt, sugar, and copper carbonate. These ingredients react during firing to produce rich colors and textures.

Step 3: Wrapping and Preparing for Firing

I wrapped the pieces tightly with copper wire for metallic accents, then sealed them in aluminum foil to control the chemical reactions during firing.

Step 4: Firing in a Dakota Pit Kiln

The prepared ceramics were placed in a Dakota-style pit kiln and fired at 1100°C (2012°F). The pit was sealed and left to cool for 24 hours, allowing the materials to fuse naturally.

Step 5: Uncovering the Magic

The next day, I excavated the ceramics from the ashes. The results were breathtaking—vibrant tones, rustic textures, and organic patterns that only fire and nature can create.

This technique combines art, nature, and ancient methods, resulting in ceramics that are truly one of a kind. It’s a reminder of the beauty that comes from working with the earth and fire. 16/12/2024
