πŸ’™ Men's Health Week πŸ’™

As a mum of a son, I think often about the future I want for him.

I want him to grow up knowing that being a man doesn't mean suffering in silence. That strength is having the courage to speak up, seek help, and support others.

I want him to value kindness, respect, empathy, and healthy relationships.
By supporting men's mental health and teaching emotional awareness, we can help prevent family and domestic violence and create safer communities for everyone.

For my son, and for every boy growing into a man, I hope we continue breaking the stigma and raising a generation that feels seen, heard, supported, and valued.
Because men's health matters. And so does building a future free from violence.

🌟 5 Key Takeaways from Myra's Interview on Mindful Moments
1. Creativity Helps Us Express Ourselves 🎨Myra's love for art shows how creativity can help children share their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Art is a powerful way to build confidence and express emotions.
2. Kindness Makes a Difference ❀️
Throughout the interview, Myra highlighted the importance of being kind to others. Even small acts of kindness can have a positive impact on someone's day and help create a caring community.
3. Believe in Yourself and Try New Things 🌱Myra's achievements remind us that confidence grows when we step outside our comfort zones. Trying something new, even when we feel nervous, can lead to wonderful opportunities.
4. Cultural Diversity is a Strength 🌏
Having lived in both Australia and India and speaking both Hindi and English, Myra shared the value of understanding different cultures. Diversity helps us learn from one another and build respect and connection.
5. Young People Can Make a Positive Impact ⭐
Myra's ANZAC Day artwork and thoughtful answers demonstrate that age does not limit the ability to inspire others. Every child has a voice, unique talents, and the potential to make a difference in the world.

We would like to acknowledge that Myra's interview was made possible with the permission and support of her parents, Divya and Vikrant.

πŸ–€ I've been meaning to write about this for a while.

As a mum raising a son and as an educator in a secondary school, campaigns targeting Premier Jacinta Allan really concern me.

You don't have to agree with a politician's decisions. We all have different views, and that's part of democracy. But using sexist language to attack a woman in leadership sends the wrong message to our young people.

Every day, parents and teachers work hard to teach children about respect, kindness, and how to disagree without putting others down. When we normalise disrespect towards women in leadership, we make that job harder.

I want my son, and all young people, to grow up respecting women, including women in leadership positions. πŸ’™

Our children are watching. They learn from what they see and hear around them. Let's show them that we can disagree respectfully and judge leaders on their actions and policies, not their gender.
Victoria can do better. Australia can do better. ✨

The June edition of The Westsider is now live!
This month, I discuss "When children β€˜fall apart’ after school: understanding big emotions and responding with calmness." As parents and caregivers, understanding the emotions behind these moments can help us respond with patience, empathy, and connection.
A sincere thank you to Barbara and the entire Westsider team for supporting the release of my monthly editorial.

Mindful Moments with Lauren – Key Takeaways
1. ✨ Authenticity is powerful
True confidence comes from embracing who you are, not changing yourself to fit society’s expectations.
2. πŸ§ πŸ’¬ Mental health conversations matter
Open discussions help reduce stigma, encourage understanding, and remind people they are never alone.
3. 🌈 Your diagnosis does not define your potential
Challenges and life circumstances should never stop someone from pursuing their dreams and purpose.
4. πŸ’›πŸ«Ά Self-care and support are essential
Looking after your mental wellbeing is important when balancing life, advocacy, and personal goals.
5. 🌟 Turning pain into purpose can inspire others
Sharing stories with honesty and courage can create hope, healing, inclusion, and positive change within communities.
