A big shout out to the crew from Main Roads in Geraldton for their advice, hospitality and enthusiasm on our recent set of training videos. The acting wasn't bad either! It was great to work with everyone again!
A big thank you to all of our clients who have trusted us with their brands and sent some very interesting projects our way. We were busy right up until today and we have two major jobs in the pipeline for January which means a great start to 2025. The trend toward high level consultation and embedding in client teams has continued to be our niche, which we love. We don't exist without your support so thanks again. We wish you and your families a safe and Happy Christmas. See you next year!!
Happy New Year. We finished 2023 on high note with a diverse range of projects from Department of Transport, Main Roads WA and Department of Fire & Emergency Services. The work was varied with everything from strategy and brand consultation, to video stories and digital campaigns. A big thank you to all of the great people from the internal teams, who welcomed us like new team members. It was great meeting and working with everyone. We’re looking forward to what 2024 brings all of us.

Celebrating 20 years. We’ve never been precious when it comes to choosing the best idea for our clients, even if it’s not one of ours. This Adshel for SunSmart is the perfect example. .We were approached by a media agency who had a great idea of putting a sunscreen dispenser into an Adshel site at a Scarborough Beach. They had already done all of the other hard work of sorting out construction and approvals. All they needed was a bit of creative thinking and copywriting to give their idea context and bring it to life. And client approval, of course. We did our bit with an existing shot from a previous campaign and a headline. The result was a brilliant piece of outdoor advertising courtesy of a great collaborative effort and a brave client.

Celebrating 20 years. The initial northbound stage of Perth’s first Smart Freeway was the largest Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) project undertaken by Main Roads WA, at the time. We were initially commissioned to support the communications team at MRD to help develop the key message hierarchy and overarching communication strategy. The initial consultation ended up being a five-year project culminating in the launch of the Smart Freeway. We designed the research plan, created the brand position (Smart Freeways Make Sense) and over one hundred pieces of digital and mainstream content, from a new website to a user video library, and marketing campaign. The brand and website are being used for the current southbound stage, as planned.

Celebrating 20 years. This was one of those occasions when words were not necessary to get the message across. We didn’t anticipate the blow back that it would cause, with the then Archbishop of Perth expressing concern for our expression, and Len Buckeridge from BGC, who owned the pest control company, saying that while he could appreciate the humour, he had some very large clients who probably wouldn’t but that he’d take care of that. He was tough but fair, as always. He didn’t fire us and we starred in an Alson cartoon in The West Australian.

Celebrating 20 years. We have created many campaigns aimed at behavioural change but the Two Hoots campaign for Transperth was the most challenging. It also ended up becoming the most enduring, running over five consecutive years, same idea, fresh ex*****on every year. The challenge was to highlight and identify negative behaviours without creating confrontation or embarrassment, as the target audience was also frequent travellers and might be sitting next to you while reading about themselves on a big poster that you were also reading. So, we had to say ‘Hey You’ without shouting or pointing.’

Celebrating 20 years. Sometimes all you need is a simple shot and a simple headline (that connects instantly with the target audience and works on two levels, not sure AI can do that, yet).
Celebrating 20 years. SunSmart had commissioned some research into their younger demographic in an effort to protect them from future skin cancer. One of the most interesting insights at the time, was that this audience believed that you could only get seriously burnt if you were lying in the sun at the beach. We were asked to create a multi-media campaign that would address this misconception in a simple and direct way.'

Celebrating 20 years. This one was a while back but is still the largest out of home campaign that we have ever created. The audience were tradies and the only mandatory was to retain the existing brand positioning statement, ‘If it’s not a Mrs Mac’s Take It Back’. We didn’t write it but we had a lot if fun using it to deliver a national campaign that appeared on billboards, buses, trains, servos and deli windows all over the place. As with everything outdoor, visually does it, and we did it with a fun series of ex*****ons. The most stressful part was having material in place for a simultaneous national launch. Some of the stuff had to be actually be printed and installed! Remember that?
