🚓👮♀️ Special Visitors at Next Generation! 👮♂️🚓
On the morning of 17 October, the children were thrilled to welcome four local police officers for a special visit to our centre.
The officers spoke about their roles in the community, showcased their uniforms and equipment and engaged the children with fun questions with small prizes to win. The excitement continued as the children dressed up as police officers, explored a real police car and took part in a road-crossing role-play game to practice crossing safely.
This engaging experience helped the children learn about the important work police officers do, how to stay safe on the road and what to do if they ever need help. Most importantly, it helped build positive relationships with the local police, supporting a sense of trust, safety and belonging within the community.
🚓 Exciting Visit from Hornsby Police! 🚓
This Thursday, 16 October at 11:00 AM, our centre is welcoming officers from Hornsby Police Station for a special incursion!
Our kids will get to:
👮♂️ Explore police uniforms and equipment
🚔 Check out a real police car parked right here
❓ Ask questions about police work
🚸 Take part in a fun road safety role-play
They’ve even been busy making thank-you cards to show appreciation for the officers’ service.
At Next Generation, we love creating hands-on, community-focused learning experiences that spark curiosity and build connections.

Moon Festival Celebration – Making Custard Mooncakes
This Wednesday, we celebrated the belated Moon Festival with a special story and cooking activity that helped the children connect with their culture, community and each other.
Educator Helen shared a beautiful story, explaining the meaning of the Moon Festival. She spoke about how families gather to enjoy mooncakes and admire the full moon, which symbolises togetherness. The children listened with curiosity and learned that eating mooncakes is a tradition that expresses love and connection.
After the story, the children joined Chef Seta and Educator Helen to make custard mooncakes. They were introduced to the word “recipe” and discovered that it tells us which ingredients we need and how to make something. They took turns adding and mixing ingredients, learning the importance of using measuring cups and following each step carefully.
Throughout the activity, the children practised turn-taking, listening and following instructions. These are key social and communication skills. They showed patience and teamwork, encouraging each other as they worked together.
Later, after the custard mixture was gently heated and chilled, the children were excited to see it transform from a liquid into a solid filling. It was a fun, hands-on way to explore science and changes in matter.
Next, they cut round shapes from soft puff pastry and added the custard filling, folding them to create their own mooncakes. This process supported their fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination and sensory exploration.
As they cooked, the children also explored early maths concepts by reading the measuring cup and comparing amounts like “half” and “full”.
In the afternoon, the children proudly enjoyed their homemade custard mooncakes for afternoon tea. It was a sweet, warm treat that symbolised the love, learning and cultural connection nurtured in our centre.

Superhero Day and Learning About Real-Life Heroes
This morning during group time, the children were excited to share and show off their superhero costumes. Child B was a ninja girl, Child C and Child S both chose to be Batman, and Child B proudly dressed as Spiderman.
We used this opportunity to discuss what makes someone a superhero. The children shared ideas like being brave, kind and helping others. We then extended the conversation to talk about real-life heroes in our community, such as police officers, firefighters, nurses, and doctors and how they help keep us safe and healthy.
Interestingly, during our discussion, Child M recognised a nurse in one of the pictures and commented, “because she is a girl.” This led to a valuable conversation about gender roles and fairness. We explained that not all nurses are girls, and not all doctors are boys; people of any gender can do any job. The children were encouraged to believe that no matter if you're a boy or a girl, you can grow up to be whoever you want to be. This sparked thoughtful discussion about dreams, equality and respecting others' choices.
We also focused on safety education, including how to define what a stranger is, why we shouldn’t talk to strangers, who to ask for help if we get lost and what to do in case of an emergency, such as a fire.
The children learned that in an emergency, they should dial 000 and look for help from someone in a uniform, like a police officer, doctor, nurse or security guard.
It was a powerful and engaging group time that supported the children’s learning about community, safety, inclusion and self-belief.

Date Night Highlights – Thursday, 18 September
This evening, we hosted our quarterly Date Night. It was a wonderful experience for both children and parents!
The children enjoyed a special dinner of pizza, garlic bread and spinach & ricotta triangles. After dinner, they voted on a movie and settled in to watch Stuart Little.
With popcorn in hand and cozy seats on the sofa, the children and educators shared a relaxed, fun-filled movie night together. The room was filled with laughter, comfort and connection.
Meanwhile, parents had the chance to enjoy a peaceful two hours to themselves, whether for a quiet dinner, a relaxing break or a proper date night.
It was a memorable evening for everyone. We’re so glad to offer this opportunity to support both our families and our little ones.

R U OK? Day - Exploring Feelings and Emotions
Today, we acknowledged R U OK? Day, which is a special day that encourages kindness, connection and checking in on one another.
To support the children’s understanding of emotions, we shared some books about feelings during morning group time. We read two books named That’s When I’m Happy and When I’m Feeling Angry.
💬 Child M said, "I have the same book at home!"
These stories helped the children explore different emotions and how to manage them. We talked about what makes us feel certain ways and what we can do to feel better.
The children learned strategies to help themselves when they feel angry, such as taking a deep breath or talking to someone they trust.
💬 Child O shared, "Mum’s cuddle always makes me feel better when I feel down."
We also had lots of fun singing the "If You Are Happy and You Know It" song, which helped the children express a range of emotions through movement and music.
In the afternoon, the children were engaged in making friendship bracelets, an activity that supported the development of their fine motor skills, creativity and focus. As they carefully threaded beads and chose colours, they also practiced patience, decision-making and social interaction, especially as they talked about who they were making their bracelet for.

🌿 Welcoming Spring 🌿
To celebrate the start of spring, the children were invited to wear something green today, Thursday, 11 September.
This morning, Chef Seta, Educator Nitya, and many of the children came in dressed in green or brought along green toys and accessories. This event helped the children develop an early awareness of seasonal changes through colour, clothing, and conversation.
The children also made and played with green playdough, which supported their fine motor development as they squished, rolled, and shaped the dough — building strength in their fingers and hands. It also encouraged creativity, sensory exploration, and language development as they described textures, colours and their creations.
It was a lovely way to welcome the new season together.
