🌎✨ Stage 1 Science Incursion – Earth and the Milky Way ✨🌎

Stage 1 and Wickham students recently enjoyed an exciting science incursion with Mad About Science, where they explored the fascinating topic of Earth and the Milky Way.

Through engaging demonstrations and hands-on activities, students investigated the solar system, discovered interesting facts about Earth, the Moon and the Sun, learned about the vast Milky Way galaxy and even created their own constellations, all while exploring how planets move through space and their features.

Students were highly engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions and enthusiastically participating in the experiments and discussions. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they developed a deeper understanding of the world around them and the universe beyond.

A big thank you to Mad About Science for providing such an interactive and memorable learning experience for our students! 🚀⭐🌍

Camp is about so much more than just the activities—it is also about building friendships, working together and creating lifelong memories.

Throughout their time at Great Aussie Bush Camp, our Stage 3 students participated in initiatives, bushcraft and team-building challenges that encouraged communication, cooperation and problem-solving. It has been wonderful to see students supporting one another, celebrating successes and making new connections.
The laughter, encouragement and teamwork shown over the past three days have been a highlight for both students and staff. The camp experience has provided countless opportunities for personal growth while creating memories that will be talked about for years to come.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented our school and embraced every moment of the experience.

What an amazing start to camp for our Stage 3 students at Great Aussie Bush Camp!

Over the past few days, students have embraced every opportunity to challenge themselves, stepping outside their comfort zones and tackling a range of exciting activities. From soaring through the air on the giant swing and power fan to navigating the high ropes course and scaling the rock-climbing wall, students showed incredible courage and determination.
They also put their skills to the test in archery, raft building and the commando course, giving every activity their best effort and encouraging their peers along the way.
We are so proud of the resilience, confidence and positive attitudes our students have demonstrated throughout their camp adventure so far!

Ultimo Public School proudly celebrated the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's NAIDOC Week theme, "50 Years of Deadly," celebrates 50 years of honouring culture, leadership, resilience and community. In Aboriginal English, deadly means strong, proud and excellent - a fitting theme that recognises the strength and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through cultural learning experiences, students explored culture, community, leadership and connection to Country while developing a deeper appreciation of the world's oldest continuing cultures.

We are proud to celebrate 50 Years of Deadly and continue learning, listening and walking together in the spirit of respect, understanding and reconciliation.

Our Year 2 students have been busy building big ideas with base ten blocks!

Students have been exploring place value and having lots of fun with a chance game: roll two dice, collect that many blocks, and race to be the first to 100!

Ultimo Public School celebrated NAIDOC early this term by recognising and celebrating the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through participation in the Djalgala Dharunga Dance Program.

This engaging cultural program gave students a meaningful opportunity to connect with Aboriginal culture through the powerful art of dance. Students explored traditional movements, storytelling and rhythm while learning a specially choreographed routine in a fun, inclusive and interactive experience.

It was so lovely to see our students learning, celebrating and coming together through culture and community just as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures have been doing for thousands of years.

On Wednesday, 13th of May, we celebrated a remarkable milestone.

150 Years of Ultimo Public School!

🎨 A highlight of our community event was the Art Show, which took us on a journey through art history. Our talented students created stunning artworks inspired by iconic artists and art movements. 🎨

The celebration was a huge success, and it was wonderful to share this significant moment with our wider community. Thank you to everyone who joined us in honouring 150 years of Ultimo Public School! 🌟

📚✨ National Simultaneous Storytime was a hopping success at Ultimo Public School

We joined millions across Australia to read Luna Roo and celebrated the joy of reading and teamwork.

After the story, we completed fun activities with our buddy classes, bringing Luna’s adventure to life and strengthening connections across our school.

Here’s to stories that inspire, connect, and spark our imagination! 🦘⚽️

Today is National Sorry Day, a time to remember and honour the Stolen Generations and their families, and to reflect on our journey towards understanding, healing, and reconciliation.

On Tuesday, 26th May, Ultimo Public School held a whole school assembly led by our student leaders. SRC members presented hands created by all students into our ceremonial pot, symbolizing unity and respect while our junior and senior choir led the school in singing the Midnight Oil song Beds are Burning.

The Gadigal people of the Eora Nation have shared their history and culture through storytelling for thousands of years, a tradition we are proud to continue in our school assemblies. By listening to these stories, we honour Indigenous culture, promote healing, and strengthen our community.

This year at Ultimo Public School, we are thrilled to welcome a record number of stage 3 students to our Debating Club. With 7 teams competing in our in-school Ultimo Debating Competition and 2 teams representing us in the Premier’s Debating Challenge against local public schools, our debaters have been busy honing their skills.

This week marked Round 2 of the Premier’s Debating Challenge, where the Spectacular 6ers secured an impressive win against our opponents, Bourke St Public School. Congratulations to Leilani, Lola, Destiny, and Touma for leading their team to their second victory in the PDC.

In addition to this, our debaters have been passionately debating the topic ‘that kids should be allowed to use their devices during school breaks’. Shoutout to The Masterminds,
The Furry Bobs, and The Frogs for your convincing arguments and devastating rebuttals, enabling you to win your debates this week.

Well done to all our debaters for their enthusiasm and outstanding efforts.
We’re so proud of you!
