“With the tremendous growth over the past few years, the people of Highfields really need a good community space and we’re delighted to be able to make that happen,” says Rev. Marius Kruger. “This is an opportunity for us to
connect with people in a real way. We are not here for ourselves. We’re here for the community. We are here to be the light and the salt and reach out to people. This is a game-changer in our ministry and in our journey as a church. We don’t want this to be seen as a church building. It is not a church building; you just have to have a look at it to see that. We can seat more than 200 people in the main auditorium, we’ve got full kitchen facilities, rooms for small conferences, events and kids’ functions. This facility is everything but a church building. This is a place to connect! We envision playgroups, kids’ parties, programs like ‘Mainly Music’, marriage courses, children’s ministry; and we want the business community to have their conferences and meetings here. We have the facilities to run outdoor movie nights, where families can come and enjoy spending time together in this lovely community of ours. We plan to reopen the bowling too! That’s what Highfields needs, a hub where we can get the young people together on a Friday night for things like youth groups and fun activities, and where children can come for kids’ club. There are so many opportunities in this facility that we will use to connect the community.”
The new ‘Highfields Hub’ is a wonderful venue that everyone can enjoy and that Highfields Community Church hopes will really make a difference in people’s lives. It will truly be a hub for local residents, an accessible and welcoming space to meet friends and join in with a variety of activities, community and charity groups. Highfields Community Church will meet here every Sunday too. Marius continues, “Council has just bought the land across the road so ‘The Highfields Hub’ will be connected directly to the vision that they have to create parklands, retail space and recreation for Highfields residents.
