We are Alex and Agata, sailors and partners in every sense. We're circumnavigating and living aboard Trim, a boat we restored ourselves.

We host sailing expeditions and share our hard-earned knowledge to help others make the leap to a life at sea.

In 2023, Alex sailed across the Pacific Ocean as a part of the plan to bring Trim back from US to Australia. He sailed solo from Panama to Fiji — over 6,500 nautical miles and 44 days at sea. 🌊⛵

From leaving the lights of Panama City behind, to crossing paths with whales, dolphins, penguins and seabirds in the middle of nowhere, this voyage was full of moments that felt unreal.

Some highlights:
• Galápagos Islands wildlife encounters
• Breathtaking landfall in Fatu Hiva, French Polynesia
• Catching lots of fish between on the way to Fiji
• Company of 30+ false killer whales
• Reunion with Agata in Savusavu

This delivery-style crossing came with compromises: staying apart and rushing through some of the most amazing places on the planet but it was all part of the plan to bring Trim back home.

Now we’re getting reading for the biggest voyage yet, this time together.

Follow along to see where wind takes us next 🌎

We disappeared from Instagram for 4 years… and now we’re back. 👀

From 2017–2021, we sailed Trim from Europe to the US, then rebuilt it from the hull up.

🤔 What followed?

A not-so-celebratory finale to a very successful restoration project. This and a complete 180-degree change in our lives.
With everything upside down and an uncertain future for Trim ahead, we moved offline to sort it all out.

In that time:
- Got married.
- Built new careers in Sydney.
- Found life beyond the boat project.
- Alex sailed Trim solo across the Pacific, from Panama to Fiji.

🌎 However, we’re now approaching a full-circle moment.

This year, we’re setting sail again: continuing our circumnavigation aboard Trim, this time on a leg from Sydney back to Europe.

We want to bring you with us. 👋🏻

If you’ve ever dreamed about:
· Quitting the 9–5 for something bigger
· Sailing to remote, wild places
· Rebuilding a life from scratch (literally)
· Or just taking a different path…

🤗 We think you’ll enjoy following this journey.

💬 In the comments:
- let us know if you’ve been here since the beginning,
- or say hi if you’re new here.

We’re excited to have you all aboard ⛵️

Most offshore boats our size have an electronic wind transducer at the masthead. Ours doesn’t, by choice ⛵️

After years of offshore sailing, you develop a pretty good feel for the wind.

Is it perfect knot reading?
Not really.

But accurate enough for how we sail: circumnavigating aboard Trim, an old, heavy-displacement bluewater cruiser 🌎

A simple plastic Windex does the job, for us.

For us, an electronic transducer just doesn’t make enough of a difference to justify the cost. Skipping it saved us about $1k 💰

When you’re rebuilding a boat from the hull up, every dollar matters. That money went straight into new standing rigging.

Would we say no to an electronic wind sensor if money wasn’t a factor? Of course not. It would be a great addition!

That said, we tend to keep things simple: a sturdy, not-too-tall mast, a single set of spreaders, and just enough wiring.

Would we recommend you do the same?
No hard stances here, just do what works for you 👋🏻

Q: Would you want accurate wind readings all the time, or is wind direction only enough for you? 🤔

What a month 💫🥴

Some of these jobs have been on our to-do list since we completed the majority of Trim’s refit over in the US.

We’ve been sailing just fine since then, but the voyage ahead calls for a seriously thorough prep 💪

Our plan is to sail from Sydney, Australia to the Mediterranean via South Africa over the next 2–3 years. 🌊

That means rounding the Cape of Good Hope, covering roughly 20,000 nautical miles, and completing our circumnavigation aboard Trim. A boat we built ourselves. 🌍

We’ve done a lot of sailing, but with the prep work and this next big chapter approaching, we’re feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.

Still, like with any other big life decision: you never feel fully ready… you just go for it ⛵️

How to fill a hole in a fibreglass boat hull? 🤔

Here are some words of advice from a shipwright:
1. Pick the right fibreglass cloth for your hull (we use bi-axial, 400gsm)
2. Follow epoxy ratio instructions correctly
3. Prepare everything in advance
4. Follow the good practices (12x taper, minimal sun exposure etc.)

It’s a bit technical and you have to work fast but with: proper grinding technique, a correct size taper, enough fibreglass patches, and careful epoxy layup, a thru-hull hole can be rebuilt to outlast the surrounding hull.

Follow for more practical boat maintenance and sailing tips: from fibreglass boat repairs, through marine carpentry to passage planning.

We do it all 🛠️⛵️
