[EN] I was asked about the colors I used in this portrait, so thought I’d post it (since I love to read about what others use as well…).
I tend to go for a very limited palette to stay with and add additional colors if needed. For this portrait I stuck to what you see on the photo:
Yellow Ochre (PY42), Rose (PV23/PV19), Cerulean Blue (PG7/PB15) and Burnt Umber (PY42/PBr6). And of course white and a teeny bit of black.
What’s your usual palette? Limited or full rainbow?
[DE] Für dieses Portrait habe ich wie meistens mit einer limitierten Anzahl Farben gearbeitet: Ocker gelb (PY42), Rose (PV23/PV19), Cerulean Blau (PG7/PB15) und Umbra gebrannt (PY42/PBr6). Und natürlich Weiss und etwas Schwarz.
Benutzt ihr auch eine ‘limitierte Palette’? Oder lieber das volle Spektrum des Regenbogens?

… when you start watching a show and have to stop to paint the view…😎 This gouache painting is based on a screen shot from ‘Inventing Anna‘ - of course it’s the New York skyline. I was intrigued by the light, almost like a paper cut-out.

I did this portrait sketch three years ago, but had to share again: Platinum Jubilee, 70 years……
What a life and what a lady! As a young princess she has lived through - and served in! - the Second World War. Became Queen at the age of only 25. Seen the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth go through many changes. Is the head of state of 15 states - at one time it was up to 32 states. Has worked with UK prime ministers, with Churchill the acting PM when she ascended the throne.

Dedicating 23 minutes to drawing a horse is not the worst way of spending your lunchtime, isn’t it?

I just hat to attempt this gouache portrait - such a great face! You might recognize him…? I’ve watched episode one and couldn’t continue watching before I finished this piece - so now I’ll be diving in again! This piece is for my BFF M., who told me to watch the show 😘.

Looking back on 2021 - I also enjoyed practicing portrait drawing: ballpoint, pencil or digital. Great fun - and I realized how much this helped when doing a recent portrait commission painted in oils (which I can’t post yet as it’s not delivered).
Do you also switch between mediums? Or do you rather concentrate on one technique?

Street scene from one of the many beautiful corners in Zurich‘s old town - Augustinergasse! Ink and watercolor in the Clairefontaine watercolor sketchbook ‚Fontaine‘: Square, 300g/m2 and 100% cotton! I only need to get used to the hot pressed surface, but I really like it!

Am letzten Samstag am wunderschönen Bielersee… bei einem Glas Pinot Gris mit Blick auf Eiger, Mönch und Jungfrau. A good day!
