🤍...Te Ara Kotahi (The Path as One)...🤍
This surfboard tells the story of two lives coming together as one — a journey guided by love, culture, and the ocean that connects it all.
The flowing patterns mirror the movement of the sea, symbolising your relationship — sometimes calm, sometimes powerful, but always moving forward together. Just like the tides, your bond is constant, resilient, and ever-growing.
The koru-inspired spirals represent the beginning of your new chapter — your engagement. They symbolise growth, new life, and the way your love continues to unfold, side by side.
The bold Niuean-inspired patterns reflect the strength of your foundation — family, heritage, and the support systems that stand behind you both. They honour where you’ve come from, while grounding the future you are building together.
The layered bands across the board represent your individual journeys — two separate paths that have now intertwined, travelling in the same direction across life’s ocean.
This piece is a symbol of unity — not just of two people, but of two stories, two families, and two cultures becoming one.
It represents a promise: To move together through every wave
To grow through every season
And to always find your way back to each other

Te Moana Whakareretanga” (The Eternal Ocean)
Description:
This one-of-a-kind hand-painted surfboard blends contemporary art with the sacred traditions of Māori and Polynesian design. Featuring a powerful palette of black, white, and deep red, the artwork tells a story of strength, guardianship, and connection to the ocean.
The left side is adorned with intricate koru and manaia patterns, representing growth, spiritual guidance, and life’s constant evolution. These designs are accented with pāua shell-style inlays, bringing iridescent depth and celebrating nature’s treasures from Aotearoa’s coastal waters.
A bold central strip combines a sweeping white wave motif with a grounding red form, echoing the hei matau (fish hook)—a symbol of safe passage, prosperity, and respect for the sea.
The right side features a rhythmic series of crescent-shaped hook patterns, continuing the theme of journey, resilience, and cultural pride.
Materials:
Custom-shaped surfboard (display only)
Acrylic and mixed media paint
Pāua detailing
Protective gloss finish
Artist Note:
“This piece reflects the sacred bond between people and the ocean, the guiding wisdom of ancestors, and the strength we carry through heritage. Whether displayed or ridden, it’s a reminder that identity and nature are deeply interwoven.”
