🐾 Meet Smudge! 🐾
Smudge first visited our GP team at North Shore Veterinary Hospital after his owner noticed he was weak in his hind legs, tired, and off his food.
On examination, he had a high fever and a significantly enlarged lymph node. Blood tests showed severe inflammation, and he was admitted for further investigation.
Smudge was referred to our Internal Medicine team to see Dr Adam Swallow, where advanced diagnostics—including CT and joint sampling—confirmed an immune-mediated joint condition, likely triggered by an infection. He was also diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia.
After around a week in hospital receiving intensive care and treatment, Smudge made a steady recovery thanks to the close collaboration between our GP and Internal Medicine teams. ❤️
At his recent recheck, Smudge returned with his emotional support superstar sister, Spice—and we’re so pleased to see he’s doing so well and recovering exactly as hoped!
👏 Well done, Smudge! We’re so proud of you.
📞 If your pet seems unwell or “not quite right”, trust your instincts and have them checked early.

🌸 Beautiful bouquets… but are they safe for your pet? 🐾
Did you know some of the most common flowers in bouquets can be toxic to cats and dogs?
🚫 Watch out for:
Lilies – extremely dangerous for cats, even small exposures can be life-threatening
Tulips & Daffodils – can cause vomiting, discomfort, and more serious illness
Chrysanthemums & Hyacinths – commonly used in arrangements but toxic if ingested
Even a nibble, contact with pollen, or drinking vase water can cause illness in curious pets.
✅ Top tip: Always check what’s in your bouquet—especially gifts or mixed arrangements.
👉 If your pet has come into contact with a plant or you’re unsure, don’t wait—contact North Shore Veterinary Hospital immediately.

🌺 ANZAC Day – Lest We Forget 🌺
On ANZAC Day, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice and mateship shown by those who served.
We also remember Simpson and his donkey, a powerful symbol of compassion and selflessness. Amid the chaos of Gallipoli, John Simpson Kirkpatrick used a donkey to carry wounded soldiers to safety — returning again and again, unarmed, guided only by care for others and his loyalty to an animal by his side. His story remains a lasting reminder that bravery often comes with kindness at its heart. [anzacday.org.au], [awm.gov.au]
Today, we honour all who served — and the quiet acts of humanity that continue to define the ANZAC spirit.
Lest we forget. 🌺🐴
