What an amazing weekend we’ve had! With Maggie joining us on the farm, Quinn had the best company. They’ve known each other for years, and it’s safe to say Maggie was her very first best friend.

Quinn already liked Huey but having Maggie here gave her that extra sense of comfort and familiarity. Before long, she was confidently showing everyone around our mountain trails and leading the way down to the creek at the bottom of the valley.
After their big adventures, they spent their afternoons doing what dogs do best — napping together on the balcony, soaking in the peace of farm life.
Maggie and Huey have headed home now, but Quinn gets to enjoy the farm for another week 🥰

Something really embarrassing happened yesterday, and while I cringed all evening about it… I’m sharing it here. Why? Because social media is full of trainers with “perfect dogs” who never mess up and that’s just not reality.

So here it is: yesterday morning I took Zorba, my cattle dog, for a walk past some cows. He started showing classic herding behavior (mistake #1: yes, I own a working dog who hasn’t been getting enough mental stimulation lately). I thought, "I know the cows, I trust my dog... let’s do a little stock work." And honestly? It went great. We worked on 'stop', 'come', and even got to do some controlled pushing. Felt like a win!

Fast forward to the afternoon… the farmer asked if I could help move the cows between paddocks. Sure! I parked my car to block one side of the driveway and stood on the other to help guide the herd.

Mistake #2: I left Zorba in the car. Window open.

Mistake #3: I saw potential chaos brewing and didn’t communicate with the farmer. I just hoped for the best.

Well… the cows came, and Zorba launched out the window to live his best herding life. Sixty seconds of absolute madness. No harm done (except to my nervous system) but still, it was a serious wake-up call.

After a day of self-pity and chocolate, I sat down and asked myself: What did I do wrong?

👎 Understimulated working dog.
👎 Not properly restrained during high-arousal situations.
👎Failed to plan, manage, and communicate clearly.

And the plan moving forward?

🤘 Daily mental work and fulfilment, no excuses.
🤘 Tighten up impulse control training.
🤘 Practice recall under pressure, with tools to support it.
🤘 Strengthen focus and engagement, especially around livestock.

We ALL make mistakes. Even trainers. But if we take accountability, learn from them, and keep showing up with a plan, progress is inevitable.

Zorba will be a brilliant working dog, I just need to do my part.

1 year old female cattle dog looking for a home

This baby's elderly owners unfortunately found themselves dealing with sudden health issues, so Stella has to go to a new home. She is in my care at the moment in St Albans NSW. She will be an amazing companion to someone who is willing to put effort into her care and training

❤️ She is VERY friendly
🐶 Gets along with other dogs
🐔 In training to ignore poultry and cats; at the moment she is mildly interested but she doesn't have m*rder on her mind
🧒 Loves kids
🧔‍♂️ Loves men
👧 Loves women
🐑 Could be trained on livestock
💨 Amazing recall
💤 Crate trained

While she is amazing in every aspect at the end of the day she is still a cattle dog that needs a LOT of exercise and mental stimulation.

The person we are looking for her must be:

💪Fit and active
🐕 An experienced dog owner who knows the breed well
🧏‍♀️ Willing to keep up with her training
🚗 Willing to take her out on adventures often and doesn't just plan to keep her in a backyard

🩺 She just got desexed and microchipped today and she will be ready to go to her new home in a couple of weeks.

We are asking💲3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ for her which is only a small portion of her desexing, microchipping, tick and flea protection, vaccinations, and the other expenses we have paid since she is in our care. Before adoption a playdate will be required.
