AVES - Avian and Exotics Service
Avian & Exotics Service (AVES) is a specialist exotics vet based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
Intubation in rabbits
Endotracheal intubation means:
🐰 a protected airway
🐰 ability to monitor and provide ventilation
🐰 safer and more controlled anaesthesia
It is considered the standard of care for rabbit anaesthesia. Intubation can be performed “blind” (by listening and feeling) or by direct visualisation of the glottis. At AVES, we can do both.
Fluffy Feet
Did you know that rabbits don’t have foot pads? Instead, they have thick, fluffy fur to protect the delicate skin on their feet. This is why some rabbits don’t like hard floors and why we always place rabbits on soft surfaces.
It’s a bit like wearing very fluffy socks! Think Tom Cruise Tom Cruise in Risky Business Risky Business!
Rabbits should never be housed on wire flooring.
