I am so excited to announce that I have officially finished my veterinary studies! To celebrate here are a few of my favourite patients from this year 😍
I am still committed to offering high quality pet sitting services including once or twice a day visits and limited house sitting. With pets with unique medical needs such as seizures or diabetes always welcome.
Thank you so much to everyone that has supported me during my degree, I'm so excited to share what this next chapter of veterinary medicine has in store with all of you.
Sending all the head scratches and belly rubs to the fur babies out there
- Dr Jess 🩺
Please note, at this stage I will not be offering veterinary care to animals and if any emergencies arise while I am taking care of your fur babies I will still transport them to the nearest veterinary hospital.

I am so excited to announce that I have been selected as a finalist in the services sole operator category in the Australian Small Business Champion Awards 2025!
These awards are selected by a panel based on answers to a questionnaire about my business achievements, goals and management. It's so surreal to see my business published alongside others from all over Australia!
I wish all of my fellow finalists the best of luck as we await the final judging. I want to also take this opportunity to thank all of you, my loyal customers for entrusting me with the care of your fur babies. It has been an absolute pleasure to meet every single one of you and I can't wait to see what other fur families I get to meet in the future 😍

With snakes out and about I figured I'd share this helpful information!
It's that time of year when snakes are more active in Australia. The best way to avoid pets getting bitten is prevention.
- Keep grass short and gardens tidy.
- Block holes that snakes may use to access your home.
- Use rat (and snake) -proof chicken sheds and compost bins.
- Use a snake proof house-yard or dog-run outdoors on rural properties, or keep pets indoors when you can't supervise.
If you walk your dog off leash or on longlines through the bush, or areas where snakes are likely to be present, then you may consider 'Snake avoidance training'. This can be taught using positive reinforcement for a behaviour like "When you see a snake, return to me and nudge my leg with your nose". There is no need to use shock, force or fear.
Regardless of what training and prevention program you put in place, snake bites can still happen. Know the signs of snake envenomation (dogs may show one or more of these signs):
- Sudden weakness followed by collapse (even if the pet then seems to recover)
- Shaking or twitching of the muscles
- Vomiting
- Dilated pupils
- Blood in the urine
- Weakness or paralysis
If you see any of these signs, bring your pet into your veterinary clinic immediately.
If you find your pet with a snake and the pet may have been bitten, then have them checked by the vet just in case. Don't try to capture or kill the snake.
Pet health insurance is worth considering as snake envenomation can be life-threatening and often requires extensive treatment including anti-venom and hospitalisation.

Last week, I was invited by Scone Equine Hospital to attend a veterinary student seminar. I met so many incredible veterinary students from around Australia, from Adelaide to Townsville! Day one consisted of lectures where I learnt about common Equine conditions, diagnosis and treatment. Day two was jam packed full of incredible opportunities to learn new skills. Of course my personal favourite was performing a field castration under supervision 🐎.
Events like this make me so excited about my future as a veterinarian and how I'll be able to continue to help my community and our four legged friends.

I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend the Bain Fallon Equine Veterinary conference last weekend as a student volunteer.
Although I was only able to stay for the weekend ultrasound workshop I was able to learn so much and it was amazing to connect with student and vets from all around Australia! Day one consisted of lectures from vets around the world on correct ultrasound technique and new research findings. My favourite takeaway was that researches have found that a Doppler signal (a special ultrasound signal that picks up blood flow) in a tendon is directly related to damage which helps us monitor sport injuries over time. The second day consisted of holding horses (and sometimes having a go at ultrasounding) at the new state of the art Scone Equine Hospital! My personal highlight definitely was ultrasounding a larynx (back of a horses throat) which can be used in conjunction with endoscopic exams (the camera exam thinngy) to get a better idea of a wide range of performance limiting conditions (such as roaring)
Thank you again to the EVA for awarding me this opportunity. Here's just a preview of the dozens of dozing horses I held and a few of many weird concentration faces I pulled while trying to understand all the information presented!

I hope everyone's had an amazing start to the year! I know things have been a little quiet on my end and you may be wondering why it's taking me around 1-2 business days to respond to enquiries...
So here's a snapshot of my last few months!
I had the amazing opportunity to attend veterinary clinics for my pre-clinical rotations snd put some of my hard work into practice in both Queensland and Tasmania!
I've then jumped straight back into uni starting my second last year!
As far as my availability for this semester, i still have plenty of availability for once or twice a day visits with very little house sitting availability due to my bookings becoming rather full already!
Message me today to ask me how I can make your next holiday away more stress free for both you and your fur babies!
