HANGING

Often overlooked, hanging is a great higher level skill that all kids should master!

Benefits:
*Arm and shoulder strength - pushing and pulling, ball sports, doing school work
*Scapular (shoulder blade) and upper back strength - improved writing endurance, better posture
*Grip strength - helps playing sports, writing, bike riding
*Shoulder flexibility - reaching overhead, climbing
*Spinal decompression - better posture, less pain in upper back and neck

Most kids will naturally want to hang, whether it be monkey bars, trees or Mama's cable machine, making it a fun activity.

Kids with low tone or who spend a lot of time in front of screens or books hunched over will often find this difficult due to poor strength/endurance or lack of range. It's these kids that will benefit most from doing it!

Our much loved and successful postnatal course is back! Just in time for the new year, join our growing group of Sunny Coast mums who have gotten stronger and improved their pelvic floor and core in just 8 weeks!

After doing this course, you'll:
- Feel stronger so you can lift your kids without pain
- Be confident to jump on a trampoline or go for a run without leakage
- Find out what things you're doing daily that make your pelvic floor and ab separation worse - and how to avoid them
- Future proof your body for your next baby, getting back to exercise or just just everyday mum life!
- Get back your pre baby body safely, confidently and without hurting yourself or making things worse

This 8 week course is written and supervised by a women's health physiotherapist, nutritionist & CHEK Practitioner. That means this course is a one-of-a kind, holistic and functional course that incorporates physical exercise with meditation, breathing and practical activities that will help your day to day life as well!

Remember supplements will NOT make up for poor diet but the right ones can make a huge difference to recovering quicker, feeling more energy and just maximising how you feel after the 10 month marathon you've just run or growing and birthing a human.

The supps I've been taking daily + reasons for why they're so useful 👇
If you're 2 months or 2 years post, adding these to a good diet can really help if you've got a prolapse or separation that's not healing despite doing the right exercises, if you're still feeling depleted (not just sleep related) or if you've got gut and immune issues.

*Algal Oil - did you know fish contain good omega-3 fats because they eat algae?? Going straight to the source makes for a vegan, more environmentally friendly source than taking fish oil supps. You can also take cod liver oil or increase your intake of wild caught fish to help boost this important nutrient needed for smarter babies, cell & skin health and healthier breastmilk - I get mine from @soulfishseafoods
*Mother & Baby Probiotics - not all probiotics are created equal! This one contains bacterial strains that have actually been shown to be beneficial for pregnant, lactating mums and babies who were born via C section or aren't breastfed. Many store bought probiotics have lots of strains that have no evidence to help anything so you need to be selective.
*Iron + lactobacillus plantarum 299v & vit C: super new research that showed this strain helps increase iron absorption, plus vit c which does the same. Iron tends to be one of the major nutrients depleted post baby, which makes sense considering their first 6 months store is taken from you.
*Encapsulated placenta capsules - yes, these are bubs' placenta which have been made into tablets. I took these with my first too and they're supposed to help with post partum blues, energy and healing. A placenta looks a lot like liver and we all know how nutrient filled that organ is. I used @mothersinarmsplacenta who is based on the Sunny Coast.
*Collagen + Vit C: @bumblebee_tuna11 takes this to help his shoulder tendonitis and it makes sense postpartum

Note: Always start with diet, as a nutrient dense and targeted diet can cover the most of these! Daily i try to include:
- 1-2 pastured/ organic eggs
- grass fed ghee, lard or cream
- grass fed meat from my local farmers (I head to Kawana Farmers market each Saturday which has a great playground for kids)
- plenty of filtered water, this can include tea like Dandy chai, raspberry leaf or mushroom blend (contain adaptogens safe for lactating mums)
- fermented veg

Feeling overwhelmed? Does everything feel too hard? Your confidence is not what it used to be?
1 in 5 Mums and 1 in 10 non birthing partners experience some form of perinatal depression or anxiety. The numbers are alarming but help us to realise we are not alone.
Mental Health can be a challenging topic to talk about, let’s face it. It is not easy to identify our feelings and equally difficult to talk out loud and ask for help or even know where to go for help in the first place. Caring for our mental wellbeing is equally as important as our physical wellbeing, no matter who we are.
Becoming a parent for the first time, second or third and so on does not always come easy. It certainly doesn’t feel like it looks in movies or on socials. Our bodies, our routine, our families are all going through incredible change.

Here at Play Matters Sunshine Coast, we’d like to begin the conversation, ‘Let’s Talk About It, YOU Matter’. This is simply a casual get together with coffee van and cake, picnic rugs set under trees and conversation. Perinatal Child & Family Hub, Blackbird Counselling, ForWhen, Pointe Pilates and the team from Play Matters will all be available to chat and share take-home information. There will also be a Clothes Swap for Babies & Kids and play experiences if you’d like to bring your baby or children.
This first-time event is open to everyone. Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Carers. Maybe you know someone you’d like to help or maybe you have been meaning to come along to Playgroup, but put it off? This is a great opportunity to discover playgroup and the magical place this is, Play Matters Sunshine Coast Hub.
We can’t wait to make you welcome. If you have any questions, please contact us
